Classroom News - Year 2

Miss Simpson, Mrs Phelps and Mrs Cain

Year 2 have been excited to begin studying Advent and the Christmas season. We have been learning about waiting and hope and all the signs and symbols of Advent. During English we have been continuing our reading rotations and consolidating our spelling rules and patterns from the year. Recently we completed a Big Write and we practiced our editing and up levelling skills with our break down buddy.

Our new chapter book, The 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race has been bringing lots of reading pleasure to all the students. Parents are reminded that we will no longer send any PM readers home after this Thursday. Please remember to send in any library books or readers you may still have at home so that end of year stocktake can be conducted.

In Maths we have been practicing our problem solving skills using the processes of multiplication and division.

Our Living Things science unit has allowed us to grow some beans over the course of the last week. The sprouted bean shoots have been sent home now and are ready to plant in soil for further monitoring.

We have been learning about the human body in PDHPE. Last week we had some special visitors when the Surf Life Saving Education group bought their Beach to Bush program to us. We learned lots of signals we can use in the surf to send each other messages. We also made some beautiful drawings with another special visitor, Anthony Strong who helped us to use Aboriginal symbols to create a story.

Our beautiful artworks proudly displayed at the front of the room.
