Whole School Assembly
On Wednesday 5 February, we had our first whole school assembly where we welcomed our Year 7 cohort and other new staff and students into the St Albans School Community. These assemblies are an important part of our school calendar and school traditions. The assembly provided an opportunity for us all be together to make connections, especially with our new Year 7s.
The Assembly was run a little differently this year. The changes were in line with the current safety guidelines and so that we were able to have as many of the students as possible together in the gym for this celebration. The event was live streamed to half the school and was available for parents and guests. Unfortunately, we had a technical issue with the audio. We will ensure we have resolved this for any future live stream events. Apologies if you were impacted by the difficulty with audio.
During proceedings, we celebrated together and acknowledged examples of student leadership and excellence in a range of areas. We were treated to a range of student musical performances and an overview of the 2020 VCE and VCAL achievements. Our school Captains, Jasmine Mondia and Jamal Baba, welcomed our newest students and Grace Murray and Bryan Luu responded on behalf of the Year 7 Cohort. All students were reminded of the Student Recognition Prize, awarded at the end of the year to students exemplifying the school values of Respect, Integrity, Leadership and Excellence. This includes having over 90% attendance and wearing school uniform correctly. This was the first of our whole school events for 2021 and we look forward to our next opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate and share successes. These traditions are what helps to create a school community and certainly support our whole school commitment to Connect, Protect and Respect.
School Photos Friday 19 February
On Friday 19 February, we have our school photos. All students are required to have a school photo taken. They are necessary for the school ID card and are available for purchase in a variety of formats.
Details of how to order online can be found on Compass Community tab and are also included in this newsletter. Photos will be able to be ordered online from now and this continues after the photo day via Compass. We also have a limited number of envelopes for those families unable to complete the online ordering process, please note if you order via the envelope, the student must bring it, with correct payment, to give to the photographer on photo day. Envelopes can be collected from the school office by students or parents.
Please note all family or sibling photos must be ordered online before 11pm Thursday 18 February.
All students are required to be in correct school uniform, not sports uniform for their photo. Make-up should be kept to a minimum and not noticeable, and jewellery should adhere to the school policy. As with all school days, students are required to be on time. Students absent on the day will have the opportunity to have a photo taken on Monday 1 March.
VCE and VCAL Pathways
The Class of 2020 achieved great results in both VCAL and VCE. These results enabled students to access high quality pathways for 2021. The VCAL student destinations showed the majority of students going on to TAFE to continue their studies, with another group applying for apprenticeships.
For the VCE students, 70% have gone on to study at University, with 30% to TAFE. The main areas of study included Health, Management & Commerce and Society & Culture. Congratulations to all the students, and our thanks to the Careers Team for their ongoing support of all of our students.
