Chaplain’s Spot- “WORRY”

Here I am on my first day of school. I met my Prep teacher 50 years later!

Don Joseph Goewey is author of ‘The End of Stress, 4 to Rewire Your Brain.’

He wrote this article in HuffPost.

85% of what we worry about never happens. 500 years ago, Michel de Montaigne said: ‘My life has been filled with terrible misfortune; most of which never happened.’ Now there’s a study that proves it. It looked into how many of our imagined calamities never materialize.

Of the 15% that did happen, 79% of people discovered either they could handle the difficulty better than expected, or the difficulty taught them a lesson worth learning. This means that 97% of what we worry over is not much more than a fearful mind punishing us with exaggerations and misperceptions.

Montaigne's quote has made people laugh for five centuries, but worry is no joke.

If we could cope with the worry that controls our mind, we would greatly increase the odds of living a longer, happier, and more successful life. Plus, new research has found that you can rewire your brain to stop worrying. It starts with the decision not to believe the misfortune that your worried thoughts foresee! Let’s start looking at the positive possibilities, and not let the negative take over.
