Year 4 News

Term 1 of year 4 has been a mixture of fun and exhaustion. We have been through tough times and smooth times I am going to tell you today.

Swimming Carnival

One of the best times was the swimming carnival where we all got to participate in events such as splash pool games and grass games and some students got to race against other students and if they won they would go to districts where they would race against other schools.

PBL

Our PBL this term has been going really well, we have been making our own versions of the game of life. Students have been working non-stop and have learnt how different jobs help the community and how to make our community become a better place.

Spelling

The year 4’s have a new spelling program which allows students to spell all sorts of different words by the end of the year. Students also get a reward at the end of the week for beating the teacher by 10 points 0r more.

Writing

In writing students have been writing persuasive texts on issues such as using plastic bags and straws, banning mobile phones at school and the use of palm oil.

Year 5 News

Literacy

The Grade Five’s have had a successful term of planning and publishing their narratives and have enjoyed sharing their creative stories with each other. They have recently begun exploring Persuasive texts. Students have been busy writing their Persuasive texts by using the correct structure and forming their own judgement on an issue in order to persuade someone and defend their argument.

School values

Respect

There has been a strong emphasis on ‘Respect’ within the grade 5 cohort this term. During week 9 we were fortunate enough to have a guest speaker come in and speak to us about the importance of treating everyone with respect and also reminding us about not giving into peer pressure-especially when it involves illegal activity such as graffiti.

Here are some important messages these students took away from this experience:

‘On our incursion, our guest speaker Xavier told us about Graffiti and its problems. He showed us how graffiti is wrong and illegal without permission.

Xavier turned into a character that made all the wrong decision and hung out with the wrong people. The character that he turned into made wrong decisions by not telling his parents, eventually his parents broke up.

He told us that bad things can happen to you and your family when you make the wrong decisions. So we learnt that graffiti is a crime and against the law because it is vandalism. But graffiti with permission by the council is street art and its okay! Xavier showed us photos from his computer that represented graffiti ruining houses and businesses.'

-Jasmine, Sheba, Jackson and Lorena

‘Last week on Tuesday we learnt the difference between vandalism and art and even art can be vandalism if you don’t ask before doing it. It is really disrespectful to vandalise someone else’s property, so dot vandalise!

-Emilia and Joel

PBL

The students have been working exceptionally hard all term on their Change Makers video where they have made a short clip on how they can create a positive change in the community and are very excited to share them all with you!

Viewings will begin on Monday 1st April. QR codes will be displayed in the office area, please take your child through this space at your convenience.
