Principal's Report

College Canteen

Due to the imminent retirement of our wonderful canteen manager, the college placed the management of our canteen out to public tender.  Many companies tendered for the chance to manage the school canteen, commencing Term 3. After short listing and checking references, a small committee of students, teachers, and principals heard submissions from short listed applicants. The committee were very impressed with the quality of the food that will be offered to our students and were excited with our chosen company’s business model going forward. The college community are looking forward to this new era, freshly cooked food and a substantial healthy menu. The new company, Chalkboard Catering, will be taking over the running of the canteen from the start of Term 3 and we look forward to welcoming them into the community.

Visiting International Teaching Staff

As part of a Monash University program, Brentwood have the privilege of hosting visiting teachers from Saudi Arabia until September 13. We welcome Fahad Almajed and Abdalelah Alshmsan to our school. They will be observing some of our classes in operation to gain insights into the Australian Education system. They will be in the school for three days a week and hope to build their expertise and experience professional growth as educators in Saudi Arabia.

Division Cross Country

On Thursday May 24, Brentwood’s cross country runners went out to Norton’s Park representing Brentwood Secondary College, participating in the Monash Division Cross Country event. The 17-20yr & 16yr males ran 5km races, with Brentwood collecting the gold medals for both events, congratulations to Byron Browne & Dean Meeks for their great performances. The remaining students ran the challenging 3km course.  A lot of courage and determination was on display from all Brentwood participants and over the day Brentwood managed to pick up 18 medals which is a great achievement. One of the highlights being the 14yr Female age group, taking all the medals on offer with Olivia Smith (Gold), Charlotte Gervansoni (Silver) and Ella Dearness (Bronze), well-done girls. Brentwood have 64 runners going through to Regional finals which will be held on Tuesday June 19 at Yarra Glen Racecourse. We wish them all the best with their training and performance on the day.

International Students Forum

On Thursday May 3, Jessica Ji, Jack Chen and Vivian Truong along with Mrs Thapliyal (International Students Manager) attended the International Student Forum facilitated by AFS Intercultural Programs representing the college. The Forum was dedicated to encouraging and improving outcomes for international students at high school. The event brings together domestic, exchange and international students from all over Victoria. This also provided a medium for students to discuss ways to develop global citizenship and global perspective in our schools and integrate.

Just a reminder that students are not required at school on June 12 as staff will be using the day for Assessment (This is the Tuesday after the long weekend).
