French Corner

What’s on at the Alliance Française

The Alliance Française celebrates the Winter solstice with good food and even better music. The Fête de la Musique evening is coming up on Thursday June 21st. Featuring a variety of musicians, mulled wine, soupe à l’oignon and a jam session, this promises to be a fun event. Go here to book tickets.

Eildon Mansion

On Sunday 29th July, Eildon Mansion, the magnificent building which dates from 1850 and houses the Alliançe Francaise in St Kilda, will be open from 10-3 as part of Open House Melbourne weekend 2018. As well as exploring the building, there will be activities for children, a visit by a 19th Century couple, crepes and coffee to tempt your tastebuds and French DVDs CDs and books for sale.

Bastille Day

If you are looking for events in the school holidays, the Bastille Day French Festival is on the last weekend, on 14th and 15th July at the Melbourne Meat Market in North Melbourne. A celebration of all things French, the festival features the food market, but also a full program of talks, film, masterclasses and workshops, an art exhibition, entertainment and the Little Frogs Corner for children. La La La, Melbourne's French Choir, will be singing French folk songs and blood curdling revolutionary songs on Sunday, including La Marseillaise. Look closely and you might spot Madame Robson. More information is available here.
