Inclusiveness

Inclusiveness - PAS

PAS have been studying our school values and recently delved deeply into the value of ‘Inclusiveness’. We completed a thinking routine called ‘See, Think, Wonder’ using our school’s new visual poster.

Here are some of what we saw, thought and wondered when we looked at our ‘Inclusiveness’ poster:

SAW

Bella – handprints.

Sammy – Handprints that are different sizes.

Emi- Purple colours and some white bits. Some of the hands/ fingers have been cut off at the edge.

THOUGHT

Banjo – I think it looks like a tree made out of hands.

Dean – I think it looks like Clare’s (art teacher) art.

Thomas – I think everyone stamped hard so we could see the prints.

Leon – I think the colours make you feel happy.

WONDERED

Willow – I wonder if the hands are letting everyone do what they want to do and playing with them, I think that’s what the hands mean, letting everyone play even if you might not want them to.

Finn – I wonder if the big hand lets the other hands in.

Olivia – I wonder if they’re baby hands and toddler hands all being allowed to join in.

The children then participated in a role-play about the idea of social exclusion might look like if they were to witness it: How would the people involved be feeling and how would that be portrayed by their body language and facial expressions? They then thought about what inclusion would look like from an outsider’s perspective and how that might affect someone’s feelings and expressions. We have some budding actors amongst us!

Finally a worksheet was completed where the children visually presented their ideas.

What a wonderfully empathetic and creative group of students they are, able to articulate quite a sophisticated concept.

Here are some examples of their drawings:
