Grade six

Grade 6 Newsletter Report
This first term all the grade sixes have adjusted well to the routine and have been busy with all the events this term. We have enjoyed all the opportunities that have been presented to us and have worked hard for what we have accomplished individually and together. We are looking forward to everything that is coming our way and we are making the most of our last year at Oatlands.
At Oatlands Primary School there are many different leadership positions available. The majority of us applied to help and support the school and many of us got roles. We all demonstrated resilience if we missed out on a role and know that everyone in grade 6 is still a leader with or without a badge.
With all the highs of being in Grade Six we have still managed to complete all school work and have worked hard in the classroom. In Maths, we have been learning about prime and composite numbers, square and triangular numbers as well as factors and multiples. In English, we have been doing plenty of writing. We are working on what style we find easiest to plan our stories, and we have been drafting our pieces before publishing. Also in English all the grade sixes have been reading ‘Once’ by Morris Gleitzman and everyone is loving the book. This term the sixes have also been a part of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S program and we are learning important life skills for any upcoming challenges in life like high school.
Because of the amount of kids in grade six we had to split the camp into two weeks. The first camp unfortunately had plenty of rain while the second camp luckily only got rain in the last few days. On Monday, we set up our tents, went to Tidal River for a swim and climbed Mt. Oberon. Once at the top we got to observe the captivating sunset and view. On Tuesday, many students learned how to surf and we hiked to Squeaky Beach. After all of us had dinner and dessert we began our trivia night, the trivia was tribe against tribe to get the most points. On Wednesday we did another hike to Little Oberon Bay. At night all of us got to enjoy watching Jumanji Three under the stars. On Thursday camp one got to enjoy doing the amazing race but sadly on the second camp it got cancelled because of the rain but luckily we were still able to go to the general store and watch and perform in the talent show. On Friday sadly we went home but we were excited to see our families and have a warm shower.
This term we have been preparing for Inter school Sports for Term 2. We were introduced to all of the sports which are Netball, Soccer, Football, T-ball and Kickball. Once the teams were announced all the teams had their first training sessions with many to come. We are preparing to compete against other schools next term.
Overall Term 1 has been so much fun and we can’t wait for the rest of the year.
