Year 10 Employable Me Program
This week Year 10 students have had the opportunity to participate in one-on-one online mock interviews with a job consultant from the TAFE Jobs and Skills Centre. Students have used their Personal Learning classes to prepare their resume and cover letter to ‘apply’ for one of two part-time jobs (the jobs were previously advertised on Seek). In preparing their resume and cover letter they were asked to address the key requirements of the job.
All students that made a submission were invited to attend an interview. During the interview students were asked a number of interview questions such as : ‘Tell me a little about yourself’, ‘What does customer service mean to you?”, “Why do you think we should hire you?”.
The program has provided students with the experience of participating in a job interview, to respond to the interview questions in the moment and also to experience some of the nerves usually associated with an interview experience. Many of the students said at the conclusion of their interview that it was a valuable experience and they got some great suggestions for how to improve or ‘tweak’ their interview skills for the future.
Students will also receive written feedback from their interviewer regarding their cover letter, resume and their interview performance.
