From the Director of Students

Mr Baldino Vetrano

As the warmer weather arrives it was wonderful to see our students return to the College in their summer uniform. Term 4 always has an exciting and motivating vibe. As our students gear up for a very animated 8 weeks, it is evident that they have hit the ground running.

Wellbeing Program

Year 8 - PC Program

On Friday 16 October, "Brainstorm Productions" presented a bullying/cyberbullying program called ‘The Flipside’ for all students in Year 8. The production was a form of educational theatre and addressed cyber safety and relationships in schools. The aim of the production is to help improve student wellbeing and mental health by better understanding the digital world and hopefully learning through the decisions of the characters within the performance.

The ‘Flipside’ aims to question student's perspectives on what's humorous, toxic, private, humiliating, informative, safe, or appropriate. The performance provided strategies for positive, ethical communication online and at school. All students were thoroughly engaged with this performance and verbally interacted with the actors after the viewing in a very mature manner. Topics were discussed regarding; digital footprint, internet safety, ethical online behaviour, online gaming, empathy, responsible use of technology and many others. I hope every student took a message home from this performance that they will apply to their own online activities.

Year 8’s Pastoral Care program will give students the opportunity to continue discussing the themes of this performance with their Homeroom teacher and peers. Additionally, a staff presentation reaffirming these similar topics will be used to follow up on these key areas and give students the best chance at being prepared to take on the digital world as an ethical contributor.

Extract written by two Year 8 students:

“The play flipside was presented to us by members from Brainstorm Productions on Friday the sixteenth of October. The play was very fun and engaging, it taught us some valuable lessons about the online world and showed us how to handle those online situations in the correct manner. The play was based on real-life situations from Australia and around the world. The play was conducted extremely well by the two actors, to manage to play six characters with less than six props in the way they did was second to none.  We’d like to thank the two actors from Brainstorm production and Mr O’Brien for letting us see this amazing play”.  - Lincoln PARMETER and Jeremiah WAGG.

The College Merit system update Term 4

As we get down to the final 8 weeks of school it is important that all our students remain motivated and focused. During Monday morning assembly a reminder was issued to all students, in the hope more students can achieve a College Medallion by the end of the year. At present, the College would like to congratulate the following students for their ongoing and outstanding commitment to their learning while keeping a positive attitude.

Let us keep up the great work!!

God Bless,
