Curriculum

Primary Years Program at GGLPS

GGLPS teaches the Australian curriculum using the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate as a framework to impart this. There are many different aspects to the Teaching and Learning program of the school and these are some of the rich learning experiences in which the students are involved.

The Year 5s are preparing for their Celebration of Learning where they will showcase their learning related to their inquiry ‘Creativity and innovation allows us to communicate and understand ideas’. The Year 6s are preparing for their exhibition in which their learning has been related to the central idea: ‘It is our responsibility to reflect on issues, express ideas and take action’.

These important events are opportunities for students to share and communicate their learning with an audience. Both these inquiries are within the transdisciplinary theme of ‘How we Express Ourselves’. The descriptor for this theme is: An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity; our appreciation of the aesthetic. An inquiry needs to be within this descriptor which was the starting point of these inquiries and has helped to define the inquiry.

When students share their learning they question, research, think and form their ideas and understanding. This understanding is what they present as they discuss and share with their audience. Students will need to be confident and take risks. We recognize that this is not easy for students but look forward to the sense of achievement they will experience as they present their findings. We wish them every blessing!

EVALUATION

From November 9th – 11th, the school will be hosting our evaluation team virtually. As mentioned, due to COVID restrictions, the team of two will be connecting through live videos. The team would like to speak to some of our community’s wonderful parents. They would love to hear about how your children participate in their learning and how GGLPS and the PYP meet their learning needs. If you are willing to talk to the team, please contact me. It is hoped that there will be a time set aside for parent groups on either the Monday or Tuesday. Parents would need to be available to come into school for a session lasting approximately ½ hour. We look forward to hearing from you.
