Pathways Cricket Program 2020/21 (Grade 1 & 2)

What is the Pathways Program?

The Pathways Program has been designed as an important developmental stage for our young cricketers as they progress from Woolworths Blaster Cricket, backyard cricket, beach cricket etc into fully fledged competitive team cricket. The program is built on the foundation of gaining experience and developing the skills of cricket in a fun environment with your mates.

When & where is the Pathways Program run?

The program is held at Malvern Cricket Ground (behind Town Hall) on Friday afternoon commencing at 4:30PM (concluding approx. 5:45PM)

How old do I need to be to participate in the Pathways Program?

The Pathways Program is recommended for children in Grade 1 and 2. Whilst many Grade 3 children will commence underage cricket at this stage, the Pathways Program is still available if you deem your child not quite ready for the real stuff.

What is the format?

The program format comprises a combination of training drills and game play that incorporate the key skills of the game. Our venue enables the use of nets for batting and bowling tuition and a superb surface for fielding practice and game play, all under the guidance of a professional cricket coach. Participants are placed in small groups to maximise activity and involvement. We conduct several “match nights” throughout the season where the participants play matches against each other for the session.

Do I need to bring my own cricket gear?

Due to the current COVID-19 environment, participants are encouraged to bring their own bat if they have one. If not, club bats will be available which will be sanitised before and after each session.

What do I wear?

All Pathways Program participants receive a MJCC shirt, shorts and cap as part of their $160 registration fee. Participants are asked to wear this uniform rather than their school uniform. If you have done the Pathways Program before or have an older sibling’s uniform and don’t require a new one, we offer a reduced registration fee of $110 (just register as a returning participant).

Do you use a real cricket ball?

The program uses a variety of soft and medium balls as players become accustomed to the various activities and equipment. Protective equipment is compulsory when using medium balls (which is what they use in their first season of competitive cricket) so wearing the gear is an important part of their cricket education. MJCC provides protective equipment for participants to use if they don’t have their own.
