Football Umpiring Course 2021

The Basic Umpire Course (BUC) Schools Program was put on hold for most of this year due to COVID-19 but will be returning in 2021.

The BUC Schools Program is a rejuvenated, shortened program of four lessons and consists of engaging, active and fun activities based on the skills required for students to transition from the schools program to their local Community Umpiring Club. Run by an Umpire Development Officer from your school’s local Community Umpiring Club, the program includes activities for field, boundary and goal umpiring and provides students opportunities to learn, be active and transition into umpiring Community Football and earning money through their local Umpiring Club.

Students will learn the basic skills and benefits of umpiring, along with achieving a Basic Umpire Course certification. Students may also be able to umpire the AFL NAB AusKick game at half time of an AFL match.

More details will follow once we confirm the 2021 dates. These four lessons will most likely be in Term 1 and will take place after-school from 3.30pm  to 4.30pm.

This type of activity that leads into any type of Football Umpiring for 2021 is a valuable activity. This can also be used for any student who is currently completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award. You can use it as a new skill, a form of physical recreation or complete the training as part of a voluntary activity.

SCSA Aerobics 2020

Congratulations to the following students on their participation in the SCSA Aerobics program: Alicia Noble, Elysia Gilmour, Alicia Henry, Sian Francis, Lucy Fitzgerald, Zoe Fitzgerald, Erin Kenny, Sarah Forsyth, Lily Proudfoot Napier, Indi Hanlon and Alessia Mastrocola.

The girls started to learn the basic aerobics skills through their Physical Education program during remote learning. They showed a keenness to learn more advanced skills. It was decided to enter some teams into the SCSA Aerobics Competition for the first time. We employed past pupil,  Jessica Clark (Class of 2017) to coach the girls every Friday at lunchtime during remote learning sessions.

They quickly learnt the more advanced skills of Level 2 and 3. Jess was able to come into school one day last week to tweak skills and work on the transitions between skills.

The group had to learn numerous 'Movement Patterns' which means they travel around the 7 x 7 square forwards, backwards, sideways, diagonally and circularly. They also had various 'Team Positions' including straight lines (horizontal, vertical and diagonal), triangles, squares and  diamonds. The girls have worked really well together over the last few weeks since returning to school. We thank them for their perseverance and enthusiasm.

Due to COVID-19 their routine has been filmed and sent through for judging. We look forward to the results in the first week of December.

Congratulations Girls.
