Principal's Report

“Individually we are one drop and together we are an ocean.”

Ryunosuke Satoro

All of our students have returned to school and we are the “ocean” of Beaumaris Secondary College once more. As our logo suggests, we have returned in waves with our Year 7s now settled back into secondary school and our Year 8s and 9s are now in the routine of getting up and ready to come to school in uniform.  Our community has noticed the change with the wave of Beaumaris students in uniform coming to and from school via bikes or walking.  We have organised Year 8 and 9 Wellbeing Days for this week-more information available in the Wellbeing Matters section of newsletter.

I have been impressed with the students approach to the COVIDsafe measures in place at school particularly mask wearing.  It is a challenge for all of us to wear them for a full school day and our students have shown maturity throughout this.  We do provide mask breaks when students are seated outside.

Our state has had some very positive numbers in terms of COVID over the past week and we hope that this trend continues as so many in our communities have worked hard to keep us all COVIDsafe.

Many of you may be wondering how I am feeling with the US election finally decided,  I feel ECSTATIC!!!!!  It gives me hope for the future of the USA not to mention the fact that we finally have female representation in the Executive Branch of government.

Remembrance Day

We are going to commemorate Remembrance Day at school and also with the Beaumaris community on Wednesday.  The students will be observing 2 minutes of silence and laying a wreath at the flags in front of the college.  This day 102 years ago guns fell silent as the World War ended.  We remember and honour those who have lost their lives in war.

NAIDOC Week

Celebrate NAIDOC Week – Always Was, Always Will Be

Embrace the history of Australia through virtual and in-person events this NAIDOC Week, 8-15 November

This year National NAIDOC Week will be held from Sunday 8 November to Sunday 15 November, after being postponed in July due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

NAIDOC Week 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country – a history which dates back thousands of generations.

What is NAIDOC Week?

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the advocacy of Aboriginal groups and organisations in the 1920s and 1930s, which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal Australians.

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year, the NAIDOC theme is: Always Was, Always Will Be.

The theme acknowledges that this nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact; that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years and are spiritually and culturally connected to this country.
