A message from Assistant Principal Nerida Mellerick

Hi there!

Welcome to Term Two! I hope that you all had the time to rest and reconnect with family and friends over the holiday period. What a fulfilling Term One we had at Clifton Hill Primary School. It was busy and productive - full of learning, friends and opportunities. With incursions, excursions and district sport back running it was fantastic to see the children experiencing a more ‘normal’ school program.

For those who I have not had the chance to meet yet, my name is Nerida Mellerick and I am one of the Assistant Principals. I was fortunate to start my career at Clifton Hill Primary School in 2005 as a graduate teacher. Throughout the years I have taught across nearly all grade levels, spending many years as a Prep teacher. I am proud to work at Clifton Hill Primary School and I feel very grateful for all the wonderful teachers and families I have had the pleasure of working with over the years.

Our mission at Clifton Hill Primary School is to provide students with the best possible foundation in life through a well-rounded curriculum. We have welcomed new students and their families to our school across all year levels and I hope that they are feeling a sense of welcome and belonging.

Underpinning our mission are our school values:

  • Kindness and Empathy
  • Gratitude
  • Inclusiveness
  • Critical and Creative Thinking

At school we refer to these values during our learning programs and incidentally through interaction and conversation. Teachers model these values and guide the students to develop rich and deep understandings of what they mean and how they apply to their lives and actions. We refer to our values as part of our approach to behaviour management.

You may want to read more in our Statement of Values and School Philosophy.

As part of our school review process (Gareth shared a little about this process in a newsletter last term) we have involved students, parents and staff in forums to reflect on the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. Across all groups – our values have been highlighted as a strength. You may like to take some time to talk about our school values at home and what they mean in your family.

We wish everyone a happy and healthy Term Two.

Nerida Mellerick

Assistant Principal
