Senior School

In Term 2 there will be a lot happening in the Careers space. I will be commencing Pathway Plan Interviews with Year 12. Provided below is information about these interviews and the UAC applications that opened on 12 April.

Year 12 Pathway Plan Interviews

All Year 12 boys have been invited to attend a compulsory 25-minute Pathway Plan Interview to discuss their plans after Year 12. During this interview, we can discuss course options at university, TAFE or college, university preferences, scholarships, Educational Access Scheme (EAS), School Recommendation Scheme (SRS), apprenticeships/traineeships, job opportunities after Year 12, the ATAR, and anything else that is relevant.

These interviews will commence this week and will continue into Term 3. Prior to the interview, each boy needs to complete a questionnaire which provides me with relevant information so I can best guide and advise them. I encourage all parents/carers to have a discussion with their son regarding his plans after Year 12 prior to them attending the interview. If you would like to be part of the interview, this can be organised via Teams during school hours. Please email me with the interview time your son has made, and I will send a link to you prior to the appointment. Alternatively, your son can email me to request this.

Universities Admission Centre (UAC) – Application for University Study opened on 12 April

On 12 April, all students received their UAC pins and are now able to access the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) to apply for undergraduate study at university. Students have until 30 September 2022 to apply and take advantage of the early bird application fee. After this time, the application fee increases from $70 to $200. The boys have been told that not all courses will be immediately available for selection from April. Some tertiary institutions will not list some of their courses in UAC until mid-year.

Through their UAC application, the boys can also apply for the School Recommendation Scheme (SRS) and Educational Access Scheme (EAS). For information on both schemes, please click on the links below.

Through SRS, students may be able to receive early offers for some courses at specific universities.

School Recommendation Scheme

Students who have been disadvantaged through Year 11 or Year 12 for various reasons may be able to apply for EAS.

Educational Access Scheme

When your son attends his pathway interview, he will be advised whether either of these options are relevant to him.

  • Please note that if a parent/carer received either Job Keeper or Job Seeker for a period of at least three months (during Year 11 or Year 12), then your son is to apply for a financial hardship disadvantage through EAS.
  • At the same time, if you are receiving a Centrelink Family Tax Benefit Part A payment on behalf of your son, then he would be eligible to apply for EAS and will receive adjustment (bonus) points from most universities.
  • If the above does apply to your circumstances, please communicate this to your son so he can include this information in the questionnaire.

Please be advised that in the Senior School section of the Especean you will find Careers Newsletters with up-to-date and relevant information as it is received.
