Leadership Centre

Term 2 Week 1

Curriculum

Welcome back to Term 2 in the Leadership Centre! We are so excited to be back in the classroom, we hope you all had a great and relaxing time away from school over the past few weeks. The 5/6 teachers enjoyed hearing all about the time students spent over the holiday period!

In the last week before the school holidays, we spent time finishing off our Guided Inquiry presentations. It was good to see so many great shirts with many meaningful images, quotes, and symbols! The teachers were also very impressed with the posters of people that students look up to and the personal crosswords. Additionally, we also had the Colour Fun Run, which was so much fun! It was a fantastic day and it was amazing to see all of the students covered in colour. Well done on raising so much money, and thank you to our community as it was great to see so many helpers on the day. Special thanks to Mrs Butterworth for organising the day! In addition, the Year Five students were fortunate to have received their letters from their Scientist pen pals! This was a very exciting time for the students and they will have an opportunity to respond to these letters throughout this term!

In Reading, this week we will be busy exploring texts related to ANZAC day! This will be an excellent opportunity for students to explore some of the experiences and events on ANZAC day. During some of these lessons, we will investigate the experiences of different cultural and social groups that made up the ANZACs and we will be busy making connections and exploring the different themes in texts. In Writing, students will be exploring narratives and how they can incorporate different features to make their pieces more exciting and engaging! We can’t wait to see some of the different exciting pieces this week!

In Mathematics, we will be hard at work investigating different currencies that were used throughout history in Australia. This will enable students to further explore ANZAC day and Australian history. Later in the week students will begin to use different addition strategies in authentic hands-on activities and explore the concept of balancing equations.

We are so excited to be back at school and are looking forward to another exciting term!

Wishing you all a great term ahead,

Mrs Brisbane, Miss Walker, Miss Campbell, Ms Bennetts, Mr Burrill and Mr Dix :)
