NAPLAN 2022 information

NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine how well young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.

  • NAPLAN tests are one aspect of each school’s assessment and reporting process. NAPLAN does not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. A child’s teacher will have the best insight into the child’s educational progress.  NAPLAN results do not measure overall school quality.
  • NAPLAN questions are directly linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics. As such, the best preparation students can do for NAPLAN is to learn what they do in the classroom every day. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.
  • The assessments allow parents to see how their child is progressing against national standards in literacy and numeracy and over time. Along with other school assessment reports, NAPLAN supports parents in discussing with teachers their child’s strengths and areas for improvement.
  • NAPLAN results can assist teachers by providing additional information to support their professional judgement about students’ levels of literacy and numeracy attainment and progress.
  • NAPLAN can support school improvement by enabling teachers to monitor their students’ progress over time against the national measure, to identify strengths and areas to improve in teaching programs, and to set goals in literacy and numeracy.
  • Students and parents wishing to familiarise themselves with NAPLAN online can visit the public demonstration site on the NAP website. Some past NAPLAN papers are also available.

Year 12 ATAR Geography Excursion

On Thursday 28 April, Year 12 ATAR Geography students attended an excursion to the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary in Bayswater. The purpose of the excursion was to conduct an inquiry into the Swan Canning River System and complete fieldwork that complimented their study of biodiversity loss and the impacts of land cover change. Students were guided on an educational tour of the Sanctuary, as well as testing the quality of the water in the Bayswater brook main drain which flows through the wetland before joining the Swan River in order to reduce nutrients entering the river. Students’ results indicated that the restoration project and local strategies at the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary have managed a number of environmental issues and contributed to improved biodiversity of the Swan River.

Loreto House

It was a massive week for Loreto House. Firstly, we retained the Cross-Country title, It was a great effort with over half the House getting in before the cut off time. On Wednesday,  a group of Loreto volunteers, led by Ms Toleman, made 90 meals for The Shopfront. We finished off the week with a visit from Cana Communities, a not-for-profit organisation working with those who have experienced homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues. Following the presentation, we came together for lunch and some fine tunes from Felix (Year 10) and his band. We are truly part of a great family.

Interhouse Cross-Country Carnival

It was wonderful to have all year groups gather last Friday for our 2022 Interhouse Cross-Country Carnival. The day was blessed with perfect race conditions for all students to perform to their very best for their House.

In true John XXII College style, our students displayed incredible support and sportsmanship for each other throughout the day. Congratulations to Campion House for winning the Spirit Award. It was a tough battle for the Fr Gaetan Pereira Shield, however it was Loreto House who were victorious and took the shield home for the second year in a row!
