From the Principal

The sun is shining

‘Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation.’

These beautiful words are from a prayer shared last week by our Assistant Deputy Principal – Year 7, Mr Cameron Haines.  We were reminded that on 26 April 1986 an explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant spread a radioactive cloud over large parts of the Soviet Union, now the territories of Ukraine, Belarus, and the Russian Federation. Nearly 8.4 million people in the three countries were exposed to the radiation. Today, the same area just outside the capital of Kyiv in Ukraine is a scene of devastation and atrocity.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those impacted by the current war and others experiencing challenges related to the pandemic.

Despite these global concerns, there has been a spring in the step of students and staff this week. It has been brilliant to have a Year 6 Camp, The Little Mermaid production and so many other activities resuming at the College. Thank you to all students and staff involved in such wonderful events.

The buoyancy at the College is also reflected in the Church’s year with the 50 days after Easter focusing on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The sun is shining in so many ways.

The beautiful weather is enabling our Building Program to proceed with Library access commencing next week. Current roofing work is being completed on our new Staff Building to enable tradespeople to beat the winter rains.

This weekend we give thanks to all our mothers for their selfless contributions to families. The example of our mothers, and mother figures, provide inspiration to so many in our community. We trust that all our Mums have a special day with their family and friends.
