Principal's Report

Mr Gerard Raven

Dear Families,

Yesterday we held the annual Athletics sports at Dudley Cornell Park and the atmosphere on the day was one of fun and positive participation. Many students challenged themselves in being Brave, not Perfect; and the many smiles and laughter suggested those present were creating great memories. The number of students who chose not to attend was somewhat disappointing and I challenge parents to have the courageous conversations with their son or daughter if they elect not to attend whole-College events for spurious reasons.

Next week is the final week of Term 1 and for our senior students, the year is fast evaporating. I would like to encourage all students to consider what effort they are applying to their studies and commit to a greater effort now that we are well underway. Year 12 is hard work and can be a slog over the winter terms, however there is no avoiding this. Students (and families) should evaluate how much their external commitments (work, sport etc) are impacting on their studies.

I take this opportunity to remind families of key events on the Calendar in the coming month. On the final day of Term 1 (8 April) school will conclude at 2:30pm after our Easter Liturgy. After the Easter holidays, ANZAC Day falls on Monday 25 April and our College Captains will represent us at the local ceremonies. I would love to see more St Brigid’s uniforms at these ceremonies as a mark of respect. Following ANZAC Day, on Tuesday 26 April, St Brigid’s staff will be involved in a Professional Development Day in which we explore how student behaviour may be impacted by trauma and how key skills will lead to real and measurable change in the culture and practice in the school leading to improved teaching, learning and wellbeing. This will be a Student Free Day. We will welcome all students back on site to celebrate the opening of our new Courtyard on Wednesday 27 April.

The College has our Open Day on Wednesday 4 May in which we invite prospective students and their families to discover what our wonderful school has to offer. I would ask all members of the St Brigid’s community to promote this day among your friends and acquaintances. We continue to raise the profile of our amazing school both locally and in the outlying towns.

As next week is the final week before the holidays, we will publish another newsletter on Friday 8 April.

Go Gently,

Gerard Raven
