SPORT REPORT

Term 1 2022

Term 1 has been a busy term for sport, and we are so happy to have had a term without any interruptions. We have had the GC Pool Party, the Athletics Carnival, Division and NMR swimming, Senior and Year 7 Division round robins and NMR the Championships for Girls Tennis and Volleyball. Lots of fun was had by all participants.

A big thank you to all the staff who were involved in the carnivals and coached Division/ NMR Sports teams. These events would not be possible without you.

GC Pool Party

The first year of the GC pool party was a great success. A new venue, new activities, new events, slurpies and DJ Maloney were the perfect mix for a super fun day.

It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved and really enjoying themselves. We saw a number of amazing swimming performances and some very impressive bombing techniques. The party atmosphere was really encompassed by all especially at the end of the formal events when we had a free swim with the tunes pumping.

Division Swimming

Division swimming was a great day. All swimmers did a fantastic job.  They tried their hardest and represented the College extremely well, displaying the College values of Aspiration and Respect. We had several swimmers place in the top three for their events, with three swimmers qualifying for NMR.

NMR Swimming Championships

Jacob Ryder and Amity Lansbury represented the College at the Northern Metropolitan Region Swimming Championships.

Both Jacob and Amity swam extremely well.  Amity won her way to the State Schools Championships in two events, 50m Breast and 200m IM

NMR Results are:

Amity Lansbury:

1st 50m Breast

1st 200m IM

2nd 100m Breast

2nd 50m Fly

Jacob Ryder

Greensborough College Athletics Carnival

The College Athletics carnival was a great success, and much fun was had by all.  It was fantastic to see the Year 12’s really getting into their dress up theme of 70s

Student participation was amazing, there were many impressive performances and some very close finishes. Thank you to all the staff and student leaders who helped make the day a fun event that ran smoothly.

Division Round Robins

We had a number of teams represent the College at Inter-school sport this term. The results were bit if a mixed bag of results, but the common theme across all teams was that all students had a great time and participated to the best of their ability. And that’s what inter-school sport is all about.

Year 7 Boys cricket

Coaches Comments:

The Year 7s played Viewbank on the 22nd of February at Banyule Flats.  Greensborough lost the toss and were asked to bowl first.

The boys worked hard.  They held most of their catches and enabled two run out.  After their 25 overs Viewbank was restricted to 7/146.

After the lunch break Greensborough started their innings.  It did not go well.  They were bowled out for 30 in 19 overs.  It was a disappointing result, but we were outclassed by Viewbank. The outstanding player for Greensborough was Max Porter who took two wickets and was involved in a run out.  The boys tried hard all day and they were well behaved and overall, it was an enjoyable day.

Year 7 Baseball

Coaches Comments:

The Year 7 Baseball team had a great out.  They won two out of three games, scoring plenty of runs and making some nice plays in the field. The highlight of the day was all players getting on base in their game against Diamond Valley.

Year 7 Girls Volleyball

Coaches Comments:

The Year 7 Girls Volleyball Team had a fantastic day of competition, winning all three of their matches and progressing to the next round. Well done to the girls for displaying great sportsmanship and representing Greensborough College in such a positive way.

Senior Boys Basketball

Coaches Comments:

The senior boys basketball team had an enjoyable day with every player getting lots of court time and the opportunity to display their skills.

Senior Girls Volleyball

Coaches Comments:

The senior girls Volleyball team had a really fun day at Division. All girls tried their hardest and displayed great sportsmanship.

Senior Boys Volleyball

Coaches Comments:

Senior Boys Volleyball played 2 games against Charles Latrobe and Viewbank. We lost our first game to Charles Latrobe, 3 sets to 0. The students then played Viewbank and after being down 2 sets and a match point, the boys were able to come from behind and win the next 3 sets to pull off an amazing comeback win. Well done boys”

Norther Metropolitan Region Championships Intermediate Tennis

Coaches Comments:

We’re going to STATE!! The girls had a really strong day only dropping a couple games over the whole tournament. Greensborough College were the clear standouts on the day, with a well deserved with.

Intermediate Volleyball

Coaches Comments:

The Intermediate Girls Volleyball A Team, demonstrated the College values of Courage, and Aspiration whilst competing at the Northern Metropolitan Region Championships. They won their first game against Hume, went to three sets against Princess Hill before losing by two points and then fought hard against the Eltham but unfortunately did not come away with the win. All the girls had a great day.
