Principal's News

Dear Families,

Firstly, I would like to thank Mahla Davies for organising and running a fantastic Athletics carnival, I would also like to thank all the parents who volunteered their time and the teachers, without the whole community pitching in the day wouldn’t be able to go ahead. Well done to all the students who participated in the events and to those who showed great sportsmanship, even if they didn’t win and to those who tried sports they wouldn’t usually do.

The Greatest Gameshow on Earth?

This week the Prep students are finishing their unit on Pattern. I was fortunate enough to be invited to witness the pattern game show created by Miss V and in case you were wondering, yes it does have its own theme song. As part of the Maths session, students were split into groups and had to answer questions on patterns. It was great to see all the students participate and discuss the answers with their teammates. The pictures are of some of the questions that our Preps answered and their reactions to receiving points. Well done Prep on what has been a fantastic first term.

A Quiet Week?

Apart from our Athletics day, the usual extracurricular activities and our Friday ‘disco’ this week has been a quiet week, it has been great to see students and staff continue with their usual routines and to see students focused and engaged in their learning. However, the Year 3’s & 4’s couldn’t help but squeeze in an incursion to the Mayor on Friday afternoon. Stay posted in next week's newsletter for reflections of the visit.

Where are 1W?

This week Year 1s have been learning about location and how to follow directions, this would’ve helped them and their teachers find their way around the athletics field on Thursday. Fantastic work!

What’s the time Year 2?

Last week the Year 2 students were learning about how to tell the time. It looks like they had great fun representing different times on their clocks, who knew telling the time could be so much fun?

A future St Joseph’s Olympian?

A huge congratulations to Alexis who came first in the 50M Backstroke for the Metro Region, next she will be competing at the State Level. Well done Alexis your hard work and dedication have certainly paid off.

End of the Term… Already?

Next week will be the last week of Term 1, it’s hard to believe that we are almost a quarter of the way through the 2022 school year. Next week we have a couple of things on to end the term with.

Open book mornings and Holy Week Liturgies - Each class has joined up to present a Holy Week Liturgy, if your child is in a class that is presenting then you are invited to attend the Liturgy in person in the school hall. Each liturgy will start at 09:00 am, after the conclusion of the liturgy the same grades that presented will hold an open book morning, where you are invited to your child's classroom to have a look at their books and hear all about what they have been learning this term. The Liturgies and open book mornings are on the following days.

  • Prep and Year 1 - Monday 4th April
  • Year 3 and 4 - Tuesday 5th April
  • Year 5 and 6 - Wednesday 6th April
  • Year 2 - Thursday 7th April

Please note that government restrictions and regulations are still in force for visitors to Primary schools. The current regulations are that Visitors have a vaccine certificate and wear a mask while inside the school unless they are covered by an exception. These regulations are government-mandated and the school has no say in the matter, I would kindly ask that all parents adhere to the current regulations.

Family Picnic - On Thursday 7th April.

We are holding our St Joseph’s ‘Welcome’ picnic which was postponed at the start of the year. Once again we will be having Kaboom Sports run some fun sporting activities from 15:45 - 14:30, teachers will be able to assist with the supervision of students until 4:15 if you are running late or grabbing things for the picnic.

If any parents are able to come a little bit early and help with putting up the marquees it would be greatly appreciated. Please bring any picnic blankets, snacks and refreshments that you would like to have for the picnic. The St Joseph’s parents are renowned for their warm welcome and for enjoying the "get-togethers'' that are such an important part of our parent community. We would love to see as many of you at the mass and picnic as possible.

Thanks

Martin Earl
