Term 1 2022

Year 7 and Year 9
The Year 7 and 9 cohorts participated in the NAPLAN Readiness Assessment on Thursday 31st of March. Students were focused and tried their best. For some students, it was the first time they had experienced doing their assessment online. The practice test was an excellent opportunity for both students to become familiar with the online platform and for the school to test their network capacity. Information about the 2022 NAPLAN window will be released early next term.
Uniform
As the warm weather ends, students are reminded that they need to attend school in the correct uniform. Non school jumpers, tracksuit pants, beanies and long sleeve under shirts are not part of the school uniform. Further information about the college uniform is available from reception. It is an expectation that students attend school in the correct uniform.
Mobile Phones
Students and families are reminded that under a Ministerial Order, students are not permitted to have mobile devices, including phones, on their person during school hours. The school provides secure storage for students bringing devices and students are expected to have their devices locked away by their mentor teachers during mentor meetings in the morning. Students have access to their devices at the completion of the school day. It is a state requirement, that all students comply with this Ministerial Order. Mobile Phones cannot be used during school time to purchase food at the canteen using apple pay or any payment platform. Students arriving late, can securely store their devices at the school office.
Continuous Reporting
Teachers have been working to share feedback from the students learning through Compass Learning tasks. Subjects with 4 or more sessions a week should have 2 cycles of feedback uploaded by this Friday. Subjects with 3 sessions or less a week will have one cycle of feedback shared through compass. Please contact teachers directly if you have any queries.
Aspirations Day
On Monday and Tuesday this week, we have been represented by some of our First Nations students at the Aspirations Day. Our students engaged with Koorie students from other schools in our region to participate in goal setting workshops, a pathways market place and creative workshops as well as having the opportunity to hear from Isaiah Firebrace who shared his journey. We look forward to hearing students share their experience of the day at our next college assembly and set the agenda for student voice.
NAIDOC Week 2022 will be held from Sunday 3 July to Sunday 10 July.
This year’s theme – Get up! Stand up! Show up! – encourages all of us to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations. Our Koorie students will lead this work.
School Wide Positive Behaviour
In Term 2, we will continue our strategic work in focussing on an area of our matrix each week and again encourage parents and carers to familiarise yourselves with the weekly focus so that it can be reinforced at home
Week 1:Being polite and cooperative in all spaces
Week 2:Knowing and following the college rules and policies including the mobile phone policy
Congratulations to all students on our first full term on site for a while. Enjoy your break!
