English Term 2

In Reading, our focus will be to use the stamina developed in Term One to extend children’s individual skills as needed. 

During these Independent Reading sessions, the teachers will be conferring with individual children regarding their own particular reading goals and needs. Children will be keeping a track of, as well as leaving reflections on their reading and how they are progressing on their individual goals.

Reading will also include a vairity of lessons that explore a range of genres and build competency with all reading strategies, with the main focus being Comprehension.

In Writing, we will continue to reinforce our Systematic Synthetic Phonics Program to strengthen spelling competency. This will be supported by lessons teaching the Spelling Rules as well as dedicated Grammar lessons to build competency with the conventions of writing.

Our goal this term is to sterngthen our Writer’s Workshop, so that children may continue to enjoy the writing process and explore different writing styles. Lessons will vary between structured skill lessons and independent writing time to allow them to put the skill into practise. During this time teachers will be conferring with individual children regarding their own particular goals and needs.
