Principal’s message

Thank you to all families for adapting to our new entry and exit points, as well as the changes to the car park.  Students are certainly intrigued by the new building site, and it will be exciting to see the multi-purpose space slowly take shape over the coming months.  Whilst it will add complexity to the 2022 school year, the development will bear fruit for decades to come.

One of the shining lights so far this year has been the improvement of the literacy intervention occurring at John Paul II.  Last year we focused on implementing the whole class program, Initialit.  This year, we have put a lot of time and effort into ensuring students are getting appropriate intervention in small groups (again using Macquarie University interventions).  We have groups occurring everywhere.  I walked into Blackwood last week and could see seven different groups occurring in and out of the classroom with teachers.  The staff are tremendous.  Mrs Alison Wightman has done an excellent job and we are very pleased to have our very own intervention teacher, Ms Bec Johnson.  It has highlighted that we need more breakout spaces, which is something we will consider when designing our new library space.

In the last week of term (Holy Week), some students have chosen to prepare the Stations of the Cross.  There is a dance group and an acting group.  Parents will be welcome to attend one of the performances.  Thursday 14 April 10.00am and 12.00pm.
