A very positive start to Term 2 across the Technology, VCAL and Health classes. Please enjoy reading and looking at the photos of all the amazing students and their learning over the first two weeks of Term 2.
This term in Textiles the Foundation and Year One students are focusing on looking at what their hands can do. Over the last two weeks students have been learning to use scissors to cut fabric, and how to use glue to attach fabric to paper to add detail to their Textile design. All students have experienced success and have created a person using paper cut into different shapes and then adding fabric detail.
The 2/3 students are were very excited to begin their term of Food Technology. After revising food safety and personal hygiene, students were keen to prepare their Tiger toast. Students created their own version of Tiger toast, some made Teddy toast using their cutting and spreading skills. In week 2 students had the opportunity to design and create their own sandwich on a stick from a selection of healthy ingredients. As you will see by the photos, students were very creative in their designs and were delighted with their final product. A wonderful start to the Term Year 2/3s!
The term began with a Devonshire Tea where students developed their skills in producing a scone served with a hot drink of their choice. Students were able to use their prior knowledge and identify different processes to use in the production of their scone and identify the role of different ingredients. In week 2 students looked at seasonal options available in Cafes and produced a Pumpkin and chicken noodle soup served with Naan bread. Students had the opportunity to enhance the flavour of their bread to complement their soup. Students developed their skills in using the commercial grill to cook their Naan bread. The results were outstanding!
This term in Textiles students are developing their knowledge and understanding of how to use a sewing machine to produce a pair of sock protectors. During the first 2 lessons students have been learning how to thread the machine and use basic stitches to create a seam sample. Students have been learning how to use equipment safely including scissors, sewing machine, and the iron. Students will also have the opportunity this term to create a swing tag for their sock protectors. It has been wonderful to see students persevere and achieve success in Textiles, well done Year 8s!
Students were busy this week planting bulbs in the magnificent pots they created with Miss Campbell.
Over the last two weeks students have been looking at the qualities and strengths that they value in others. They have enjoyed participating in role plays and class discussions of the strengths and qualities of people they admire and respect.
What an incredible start to Term 2 for the VCAL students! They have been very busy planning and preparing food for the upcoming Athletics Day. They have displayed great teamwork and a very positive attitude which have assured them of successful outcomes.
