Year 7-8 Girls Football
On Monday a group of 14 Year 7 and 8 girls from Edenhope and Balmoral joined forces to compete in the Junior Girls Football competition in Horsham. After considering the combination of two schools meant they couldn't be called 'Edenhope' or 'Balmoral' individually, the team decided they would refer to themselves as the 'Swans' due to the Swan on their guernseys. Thankfully the girls had been on camp together last term so they all knew each other already which was great and helped them to gel as teammates quickly too.
The team played three games for the day against Marian College (Ararat), Holy Trinity Lutheran College (Horsham) and Horsham College. Each game the girls managed to improve their confidence and skills considering they large majority of our girls had never played before and were up against some very talented regular football players from the other schools.
Game 1 vs Marian College:
After a very strong start kicking our first goal within the first few minutes of the game, the Marian girls realised they had to lift their game and get the ball to their experienced players proving a difficult task for our girls. Layla and Tilly took some strong marks and Maddy worked tirelessly in the middle.
Game 2 vs Holy Trinity:
Holy Trinity started the game very strongly but the Edenhope/Balmoral team soon matched up and ran evenly with them for the remainder of the game. The girls laid some strong tackles and Holly showed a fierce determination to get the ball on a number of occasions working hard in the middle but also running back to save some goals from being kicked too. Bella defended well and Isabel rucked beautifully.
Game 3 vs Horsham:
Another similar game with Horsham starting off firing before some strong marks and free kicks going the way of the Edenhope/Balmoral team which evened up the play. This game was a real team effort with a number of players taking strong marks, tackling with intent and working hard to chase the ball down when it was up for grabs.

Kowree Cross Country
A wonderful day was had at Balmoral with the Year 3 - 6 students inspiring each other to great efforts in the Kowree Cross Country in Balmoral last week. The students enjoyed meeting up again with their friends from Balmoral, St Malachy’s, Apsley and Goroke in the annual event. All the students performed well but the highlight was definitely the fantastic encouragement all the students gave during each other’s races. A big thank you to the hosts, Balmoral, and Mrs Hausler for safely getting the students to and from the event and having the fun stop over at Harrow on the return trip.

Little Desert Secondary Athletics
Congratulations to all secondary students who represented Edenhope College at the Little Desert Secondary Athletics in Nhill. We came fourth overall, a fabulous effort. Lots of our students qualified to go through to the Greater Western Region Track & Field event taking place early in Term 4. Thanks to Miss Coventry, Mr Walker and Mrs Mulraney for accompanying the students.
Senior Boys Volleyball
The senior boys Volleyball team went to Horsham to compete at the regional level on Tuesday the 3rd of May. They competed in three games for the day and enjoyed the games more and more as they went on. What they might have lacked in success, they made up with enjoyment as all seven boys had a fantastic time competing at this high of level for the first time. They were unable to win a match however they improved dramatically as the day went on, from only winning a handful of points in the first game to going toe to toe with the eventual winners for the day in their last match. In their last match they were unfortunate to go down 23-25 in the second set (first to 20, but have to win by 2), as they had over 5 set points. It was a thrilling match that gained a lot of attention as the crowd atmosphere was at a peak in the closing points of the match. All seven boys played fantastic, however Jaali and Adam stood out, Jaali as a leader, a great spiker of the ball and a unreal diving kick over his shoulder to save a match point, while Adam dominated with his serving where he won 7 consecutive points in the second match. Overall it was an amazing day with a lot of improvement and enjoyment.
