Learning in the Spotlight
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn"
Benjamin Franklin
Our teachers and students are continuing their enthusiastic and committed approach to learning. It was wonderful to talk with our students about what they are learning in reading, writing and mathematics this week.
Warm regards,

Assistant Principal/Leader of Pedagogy
Living Well, Learning Well
We have ‘rules for living’ in our school
Our students and teachers are continuing their enthusiastic approach to understanding and implementing our school ‘Rules for Living’. Currently, as a St Joseph’s Team, we are explicitly teaching, modelling, talking and actively supporting our students to understand what the ‘I am a Learner’ school rule for living looks, sounds and feels like at St Joseph’s.
I am a learner (and here is how I support my learning, the learning of others and the work of my teacher and other adults)
As a school, we are working as a team to ensure that our students can identify and talk about the behaviours that help their learning and wellbeing and the behaviours that support the learning and wellbeing of others.
Warm regards,
Elise Baird
Assistant Principal/Leader of Pedagogy
Maths Motivator Challenge #2
This week's challenge is to use some common household materials to build a boat that floats and carries weight. Gather your construction team (Mum, Dad, siblings or anyone who would like to join you) and design what you would like your boat to look like.
Once you have created your boat using whatever materials you have at home, add some weight (a coin, spoon etc.) and test to see if it floats.
Capture an image or video of your boat and post it to the following Padlet page:
We will have some prizes for creative minds!
Useful Mathematical language to discuss at home may include:
Buoyancy: an upward force exerted by a fluid that opposes the weight of an immersed object.
Estimation: an approximate calculation of something.
Mass: a measure of how much matter is in an object.
