Principal's News

Dear Parents and Friends of St Joseph's Primary School

We have had an exciting fortnight of learning and experiences inside and outside of the classroom at St Joseph's Wee Waa.

This year we have three students selected from our school to participate in Wii Gaay in 202. Wii Gaay is a group of indigenous learners selected each year to come together and share learning experiences and expand their potential as learners. Students are selected by staff from the Catholic Schools Office after a learning screener. We are proud of Trey Towns who was selected in 2020, and Blaine Edwards and Bradley Hatton who were selected in 2021. These students attended a camp last week at Echidna Valley near Armidale with a number of other students and staff from our diocesan schools. One of their tasks completed there was to develop messages advocating for saving the environment and the country that we live on. More of there work, as well as other images can be found on the following Instagram page.

We have had a number of our Year 5 and 6 students representing our school at the Armidale Dioceses winter sports trials. There was a lot of good sportsmanship on display. Congratulations to Max Vogel and Edward Haire on being selected to represent our diocese at the Open League competition in Bathurst.

Also a message of good luck to our four swimmers Nate, Jaxon, Edward and James, who are competing in Sydney on Monday at our Polding swimming championships. Good luck to them all.

Over the next fortnight, we have a number of important events and meetings happening. On Tuesday 23 March at 6 pm, we will be holding our AGM for our Parents & Friends Association. There we will be voting in new executive members. In particular, we are asking for volunteers for a new treasurer. Many thanks need to go out to Jo Collett who has had this mantle of responsibility for the past year. We will be meeting at school for the meeting.

Our Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in some NAPLAN practise tests next week. These are an opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with how an online NAPLAN test works. These will be held next Thursday 25 March. If any parents have any questions regarding their child sitting NAPLAN assessments this year, please give the office a call and either Elise Baird or myself will be in touch.

Thank you to all of the students who wished me a happy birthday on Wednesday. It was much appreciated. It was a great day to be on yard duty and greet them as they came into school with their big smiles.

Have a wonderful weekend, rest and recharge before another big fortnight of learning.

God Bless
