Year Advisers Reports -

     Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7

Term 1 has come and gone with such a speed that it is hard to even reflect on all the events that have occurred. From vaccinations to first assessment tasks Year 7 has had a term they will probably not forget. They have already shown a great ability to adapt to their new lives in high school and even having rooms and timetables down in under 3 weeks (there has to be a record there somewhere).

But the crowning jewel of the term would probably be the Great Aussie Bush camp.

Year 7 Camp, 2021 was an amazing experience for not only the students but the staff that attended. Students participated in a variety of activities including archery, the giant swing, pioneering activity and the classic mud run. The students had a fantastic time in particular getting to know each other and building life long friendships. A big thank you to staff that attended.

With Term 1 down with such an exciting finish I have high expectations for the next term.

Year 9

I cannot believe we have come to the end of Term 1 already - 2021 is moving very quickly. What a busy and amazing Term Year 9 has had. I would like to congratulate all of Year 9 on the consistent effort they have shown over the past ten weeks. They have all been extremely busy completing their first round of assessment tasks for Term 1.

Term 2 is going to even busier with lots of exciting events happening.  Just to list a few:

  • Cross Country - Wednesday 21 April
  • Athletics Carnival - Friday 7 May
  • NAPLAN - Week 4
  • High Resolves - Tuesday 15 June

Mindfulness is the idea of learning how to be fully present and engaged in the moment, aware of your thoughts and feelings without distraction or judgment.  It is import for Year 9 students to work on their mindfulness and to have a break from the rigor of high school.

This month is Active April so I am encouraging Year 9 to get active, get outdoors and take care of their body!  Let's reap the benefits of getting our bodies moving and breathing more deeply as a result of exercising, laughing and even singing! We don't all need to run marathons - there are simple things we can all do to take care of our bodies - for example unplugging from technology, getting outside and, importantly, making sure we get enough sleep!

Here are some activities you can do for the two weeks of holidays.

Week 1:

  • Monday: Eat healthy and natural food today and drink lots of water
  • Tuesday: Turn a regular activity into a playful game
  • Wednesday: Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels
  • Thursday: Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening
  • Friday: Give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh.

Week 2:

  • Monday: set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge
  • Tuesday: Move as much as possible even if you’re stuck inside.
  • Wednesday:
  • Thursday: relax your body and mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation
  • Friday: get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing)

I would like to wish Year 9 students and their families a very Happy Easter. Have a great break, get lots of rest and be refreshed ready to go for Term 2.

Stay safe and be kind to one another. And remember “Self-belief is the secret to success”.

Year 11

What an amazing first term of Stage 6, Year 11 students have had. I know I say this a lot, however, I am incredibly proud of the positive and mature attitude towards their studies.  They have really stepped up, which is amazing to see.

Our first big moment for senior school this term was when Year 11 students received their senior jackets. It was great to see so many proud faces for reaching this step of their educational journey.

Year 11 students have had a busy first term. They started their term with the Elevate study program, where students learnt how to organise themselves so they can be successful in senior school.  They have been involved in sporting teams that have been victorious, leadership teams and a number of competitions, such as Mock Trial.  It is great to see so many Year 11 students volunteering to contribute to the school community and represent the school to the wider community.

Year 11 students should feel accomplished for submitting their first wave of assessment tasks on time.  I hope you all have a nice two week break and are rested and ready for next term!
