Intermediate Boys Baseball

The Intermediate boys baseball team put on a clinical display throughout all 3 wins. The first game was played against Mt Waverley and this began being a tight contest, before our strong hitting line-up enabled base runners to score at ease. Jake Maclean was the starting pitcher and combined well with Blake Mitchell behind the plate, both players performing extremely well throughout the day. Tim Kustov closed the game out in his first baseball pitching appearance. The second game against Highvale proved to be another strong display by all players with every single player contributing with the bat or in the field. Tyson Grant held the opposition to no runs as our hitting was again proving the difference. The final score in this game was 10-0. Moving into the final against Mt Waverley, our players went into this contest with a positive mentality and a strong belief in one another, the result going the way of Vermont SC 9-4.A fantastic effort by all players as we move onto the next stage!

Softball

The girls had a really great day out at Napier Park. They won their first game easily against Highvale and gained a lot of confidence. Unfortunately, some excellent pitching from the Mount Waverly team meant we lost our second game. In the final game of the day, Glen Waverley stole so many bases that they were victorious despite some excellent hitting from our girls. Special mention must go to Maddie Healy and Lydia Kap for pitching, Ava O-Grady for catching most of the day and Kelsie Stringer for both pitching and catching at various times. It was a pleasure to coach these girls and they all should be commended for their efforts.

Tennis

The intermediate girls and boys tennis teams headed to Nottinghill Pinewood Tennis Club to verse Highvale, Glen Waverley and Mt. Waverley. In a very competitive contest, we fell just short of Glen Waverley in the girl's division and Highvale in the boy's division. Standout player of the day from the girl's division was Lara Lindner-Dumsday of Year 10 who served brilliantly. In the boy's division, the standout players were Noah Low of Year 9 and Joshua Hoskin of Year 10, who played very nice doubles together. It was a great day not only watching the students but getting to know them as well. Looking forward to coaching them again in the future.

Mr. Spiezia

Year 8 Round Robin

Volleyball

Report Year 8 Boys Volleyball A – The boys dominated during the round robin, beating all schools in 2 sets. They met Mount Waverley in the final, who came out victors in a       hard-fought match. The team showed great sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the day and should be proud of their efforts.

B – The team matched their A team game for game, winning all matches in 2 sets. They met Glen Waverley in the final and made a courageous comeback after losing the first set, to take the win in the final 2 sets. The boys played a fantastic tournament and showed some real skill on the court.

Year 8 Girls Volleyball A & B Report

On Wednesday, the Year 8 boys and girls went up against Highvale, Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley at Maroondah Nets, playing inter-school sport Volleyball. All of the teams played really well, The A and B girls both played very well. The A team girls unfortunately did not make it through to the finals, But the B team girls won all of their games including the grand final. Both the boys teams played brilliantly, the A and B making it to finals, B winning and A losing. Some of us began to feel a little bit tired and fell asleep, so we could stay awake Ms Mishuk, brought us lollipops to help us to stay awake. Overall it was a great learning experience and a good opportunity to interact with new people and other schools. Thank you Ms Mishuk and Miss Eccles. Charlie B, Jorja W and Paige B

Year 8 Girls Cricket

The Year 8 Girls Cricket team had a great day winning all 4 of their matches in convincing style. The final had our girls restrict Mt Waverley to 49 runs and we scored well over 100 runs. All the girls played in good spirit and were well captained by Rituja Talekar. I would like to thank Jessica Volk for helping on the day with scoring etc. It was a pleasure coaching the team and we can all look forward to the next round. Matt Squire

Year 8 Baseball

The Year 8 Baseball team showed great character today as they finished the day with 2 hard fought wins and a close loss. With many students being new to the sport, it was fantastic to see all players contribute with the bat or in the field. Today was a great lesson that positive encouragement and support from your teammates makes a huge difference. Well done to all players on a successful and enjoyable day!

Year 8 Girls Softball

The Year 8 Girls Softball team demonstrated the Vermont values today in their performance. There were two close matches that resulted in losses on the day, the team showed their determination and effort in the attempted comeback, it was great to see students backing each other up in the field and behind the bat in a show of teamwork. Congratulations to this team who gave it their all and left everything out on the field. While we may not have won on the day, we certainly achieved our goal of having fun and representing Vermont in a display of enthusiasm and sportsmanship! well done Girls!

Year 8 Tennis

Our Year 8 tennis squads had a lot to celebrate after a great round robin. First and foremost, we felt so lucky to get out and play sport against other schools after last year. The boys and girls played competitively, and both our girls teams came out on top! The A team will progress to the next round, after two thrilling rounds which were determined by a singles tie breaker. Maggie, dubbed by her teammates as 'the tiebreak queen', should be proud of her performance, as should everyone in the squad.

Division Senior Girls Cricket

On Wednesday the 24th the senior girls cricket team met Highvale for the division final. Holly Fraser dominated the bowling in the first innings getting 4/6 off 3 overs, with Hailey Ferris getting 3/2, off 4 overs. The second innings saw Hailey make 50 runs before retiring, Brooke making 42 then retiring, Beth retiring at 24 and a wonderful golden duck by Liv Hucker. We won the day making the required 36 runs, and proceeding to reach a total of 143 off 20 overs.

EMR Senior Girls Cricket

Started off the day by travelling to Knox Gardens Reserve. Half our players were away including Hayley Ferris, Brooke Porteous, Steph Issa, just to name a few. We were lucky enough to recruit many Year 10 players, Sarah, Stella, Harini, Annie and Kate. Our first game was against Norwood, a very strong side with many good players we knew going in it wouldn't be an easy game. We lost the toss and had to bowl first, the ground was extremely wet meaning bowling wasn't going to be easy. Stella and Sarah opened the bowling, the first two bats women came out swinging and by the 10th over had already made 72 runs. By the 20th over they had made 129 with us only knocking 4 wickets down. Harini and Kate opened our batting, both getting out early on. Cassie came in and made 16, then Annie who has never played before comes in and makes 28 runs. By the 20th over we fell short of 20 runs.
