Year 9  English

Life Stories

Stories have the power to create social change and inspire community

In Year 9 English, students have been studying Life Stories. We have studied examples of Life Stories in class and now students are required to create a collage, digital or physical, that represents a certain angle or aspect of a person’s life story. They must also include a written explanation, describing the story shared with them.

Year 9 English invited 4 members of the Dhunghutti Community into the school to share their Life Stories. The 4 visitors have a strong affiliation with Kempsey High School. All attended Kempsey High as students, and all have gone on to continue their association with Kempsey High School as adults. They were able to share their fascinating and inspiring journeys which all originated at Kempsey High School. They had valuable stories of their experiences and how they have been shaped by them.

We wish to thank Helen Archibald, Fred Kelly, David Kelly and TJ. Smith for visiting us on Monday 22nd of February and sharing their individual life stories. The students were enthralled by the details of each story and they will now work on creating a collage and a written report to bring these stories to life. We hope to invite the guest speakers back to Kempsey High later in the term and present them with the completed Life Stories.
