LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

Welcome to week 3 in the library. This week, classes will be doing a variety of things while also focusing on borrowing good fit books for their classroom tubs. Kindergarten will be learning what the terms ‘fiction’ and ‘non-fiction’ mean and will be borrowing their first non-fiction book for the year. For the first time, Stage 1 is going to access the Diocese’s digital ebook and audiobook library which (hopefully!) will be a smooth process and a lot of fun. I’ve included information on how to do this at home below so your child can share with you what they’ve learnt. Stage 2 and 3 will be using the World Book Web, our online encyclopedia, to use reliable sources to complete a research project. It’s been pretty funny explaining to students that in the ‘olden days’ (ie: my school days) encyclopedias looked very different and that we had to use thirty books to find out the same thing they can type in seconds. Oh, how times have changed!

SORA - The Armidale CSO Digital Library

We're fortunate at HTS that all students have access to the Armidale Catholic School’s digital ebook and audiobook library.

There are 2 ways to access the school’s digital library (both work the same way):

  1. Use the app ‘SORA’ (download from the App Store, it’s free)
  2. Via the SORA website - https://soraapp.com/home

SORA APP & Website

  • Once the app is downloaded or you open the website, select ‘Find Your School’, select ‘My School Isn’t Listed’ then type in ‘Armidale Catholic Schools Office’
  • Sign in using ‘Armidale Catholic Schools Office’ - enter in your child’s school username (not full email address, the part before the @armstu.catholic.edu.au) and password.
  • Quick video tutorial & more how to log in and borrow books instructions can be found here.

If you have any issues with logging in, please email me

\ library@holytrinity.nsw.edu.au and I can help you with this. One extra feature of SORA is that you can borrow an audiobook on your phone and listen to them in the car too.

PRC

There are only 5 weeks to go in the PRC and many students are now starting to bring in their Reading Log for me to verify. Congratulations to these students, you have done a great job!

Some classes have chosen to do the challenge as a group and been reading books at school. These classes will have their Reading Logs printed for them by their class teacher.  This week another set of siblings completed their challenge, Sophie & April, and Monty made it to the end too. Congratulations, everyone!

Coming Soon

In the coming months, there are some great new books set to be released. For anyone who enjoyed the ‘Twilight’ series by Stephanie Meyer, a new companion book for Twilight is being released on the 4th August. The book, ‘Midnight Sun’ is told from Edward’s perspective which is another way to experience this story all over again.

Other new releases to keep an eye out for are:

  • Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor 3) - Jessica Townsend
  • Ninja Kid 6: Ninja Giants - Anh Do
  • Never & Forever (Wizards of Once 4) - Cressida Cowell
  • Weirdo 15: Planet Weird - Anh Do
