From the Head of Sport

With so much going on around us time certainly flies, and it is hard to believe we are now about to be back on holidays again. I can hear the cries of joy from parents all the way over here! Hopefully, all students take the time to be as active as possible as we prepare to juggle a very busy term.

Before we know it, we will back in the thick of an AIC sporting season unlike any other. As usual, things will be different with restrictions in place, particularly for Basketball and Tennis, but our hope is that these restrictions will continue to ease and we see a return back to normality somewhere next term.

By now, everyone should be well aware of the extremely busy term we are about to have from a sport perspective. There will be seven different sports played in Term 3 alone, as many seasons cross into each other for the first time. We have mentioned the importance of being organised for this and we hope that every student will use the holiday time to prepare themselves physically, and mentally, for when we return.

Next week’s newsletter will provide greater detail on some of the restrictions we will have in place for the start of Term 3 and the impact on spectators will be the most significant. At this stage, all parents should continue operating on a “drop and go” system. All students are to “get in, train/play and get out”.

SPECTATORS

There will be an opportunity for parents of Year 12’s only to attend as supporters and this will be limited to one parent per student only. We will provide exact details for this and the process involved next week.

No other spectators will be allowed for any students in Year 5-11. This is the official AIC position that is currently in place. We will certainly update all families if this changes but at the moment everyone should be prepared for this.

While the rule on spectators is less than ideal, the fact that our students are able to play sport at all is what is most important and we do not want to jeopardise this.

In this newsletter, we have once again provided the season-specific dates for each sport. This information is presented below in each individual sport section along with information about uniform requirements. Please keep in mind that there may be slight changes to this schedule and that there are a few trial dates that are still To Be Confirmed (TBC).

A few key reminders are below:

POSSIBLE SPORT CLASHES

It is at this time that we remind all students and families of the clear college policy that MCA sports take priority over all external club sporting commitments. While we understand there is an inevitable clash this year to the usual flow of sport throughout the year, we expect all students to participate in their chosen sports for their College. We will always make an effort to support students, and their many commitments, and it is important that all students are upfront and honest if this could be the case.

UNIFORMS

We have outlined the uniform requirements for each sport below. There was correspondence this week from the College regarding a new supplier of uniforms commencing in Term 3. As it was mentioned, this will not significantly change the uniforms we currently have in place. Only new students will need to purchase new uniforms from the uniform shop so there is no need to throw away what you currently have. All current uniforms still remain in place and can be worn.

WATER BOTTLES

We are NOT allowed to supply sets of water bottles for teams this year so all students will need to have their own water bottle with their name clearly marked on it. We are selling college water bottles out of the sports office and these can be purchased through the usual monitor system via the link here - https://bit.ly/MCAOnlineShop

Kind regards,

David Miles
