From Principal Team

Good Afternoon Lakes families,

Week 6 has concluded and what a week it has been to celebrate all the great things we hold dear here at The Lakes. We hope that you are all safe and well during this period and making the most out of this difficult situation we are facing here in Victoria. Thank you for all your cooperation, support and commitment to our remote learning program across the past 6 weeks and previously throughout the year. We understand the complex nature of this facing our families and if you ever need any support or advice, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

A massive thank you to all families that logged on for Parent Teacher interviews across Tuesday and Wednesday. The feedback from both our teachers and parents has been positive and despite the obvious changes from face to face to zoom, it went off without a hitch. The feedback and connectiveness throughout this pandemic between school and home has never been as strong and we implore parents to reach out to your child’s teacher if you need any advice or support.

Throughout this week, we held our first 2021 Prep Information session via Zoom for perspective Prep families. The time, effort and expertise shown by Laura H and the Prep working party was incredible and meant that perspective parents received a snapshot into what makes our school the wonderful school it is.  A massive thank- you to Laura H, Michelle, Shannon and Rob for taking the time to present to families. For families that may have missed the 2 different sessions this week, we will be running more sessions later this year. Any question regarding this, or general enrolment enquires please speak to the front office.

On the Secondary Campus this week, students have been participating in Wellbeing week. We believe that it is vital to promote and focus on mental health and wellbeing especially in difficult times such as this. We have recognised that both students and families are dealing with many challenges causing stress and anxiety therefore we have put together wellbeing week for students to prioritise their wellbeing and that of their families. During this week students were able to select from a range of activities each day, taking ownership of their contribution while taking a break from the pressure of completing academic work. Students have been completing tasks from The Resilience at Home Project with a focus on gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy in a fun and engaging manner in an effort to help students build resilience in times of adversity. To celebrate the efforts of the students so far this term, our very first Secondary Shout Outs will be shared at the end of the week. These shout outs recognise students who have shown initiative, courage and gone above and beyond during the term. Although their education is extremely important, these shout outs recognise not only educational efforts but also the contributions our students are making to help others through this challenging time.

It is with sadness that we inform our Lakes community that Angela Turvey will be leaving us at the end of this term to explore new opportunities in Queensland. Angela has been a vital component in our Year 6 team and her knowledge and care for her students will be missed. Thank- you Angela for all your hard work and we look forward to a more formal farewell later in the term. We will continue to keep families informed of updates for Term 4.

Please be aware that this coming Monday, 24th August is a whole school curriculum day. This is a student free day and no essential working students are to be on site. Please note that no school work will be posted on this day by teachers and it is recommended that students use this day to catch up on any school work that may not have been completed across the past few weeks. Camp Australia will be running a whole day care program on this day for essential working families. Please contact Camp Australia for details.
