Principal's Message
As we end Week 4 and our third week of remote and flexible learning, we begin the next phase of this challenging journey we are all on. We are living a once in a life time event and it’s still hard to comprehend that our Premier has declared a state of disaster. It is a difficult time.
As the world slows down around us and our lives becomes much simpler due to the new restrictions, the important things in life become more obvious. My reflections during this time are that by following the rules (even though at times, it is a struggle) it’s for the common good of our community & is imperative. If we are all in this together and we want things to improve then we must abide by these restrictions. I also believe the importance of being a positive adult role model to our children is essential. The way we behave, act and speak will have a lasting influence on our children’s growth as people.
Educationally, your children will bounce back from this time. As I keep saying, be parents first and then be the best teacher you can. When school life returns to ‘normal’ at SMDP, we will work twice as hard to ensure our students succeed, grow and catch up. Therefore, the emotional and social growth of your child should be our first priority during these times of uncertainty. As parents we need to put that ‘positive masks’ on each day, even when it’s tough. We want our children to feel secured, calm and loved.
At SMDP, we continue to listen to your feedback (Here again is the link to an ongoing survey). As we continue to build upon and improve the delivery of remote learning to our students, our next challenge is how we can keep connected as a school community. At our leadership meeting this morning some ideas were thrown around such as a school or year level disco, SMDP Has Talent afternoon, a parent morning tea and whole school prayer times. Obviously, all remotely. Fun times ahead, we will keep you posted.
