Self-Help Skills
The children in the Junior Toddler room have been gaining independence by practicing their self-help skills. While children are practicing their self-help skills they gain confidence as they try new tasks, build self-esteem and pride.
We have been encouraging feeding with spoons, drinking from cups, making food choices and asking for extra servings during meal times.
Morning tea also offers the children a great way to introduce themselves to their peers. We have been singing songs, to learn each other's name. As I sing the song the children look around the table and point to their peers, offering a welcoming smile.
When we plan to head outside, I encourage the children to collect their jackets and when coming back inside we ask they place their jackets back in their lockers.
Packing up our toys is an important self-help skill that promotes team work and teaches children from an early age to care for their belongings. We sing "Everybody packing up" which motivates children to join in and have their name called out during the song.
Arts and Craft
Art and Craft is a great way for children to express their creativity and offer an opportunity to release their feelings and emotions. It develops their fine motor skills and builds on their independence by making choices and helps them to learn their colours.
On Monday we setup the easel and the children were busy painting circular motions, long strokes and splodges. They all took to the experience differently, creating and exploring their artistry in their own unique way. Showing concentration as they watched the colours blend together on the poster paper.
The following day we were busy pasting to extend our learning of colours. The children spread the glue around the paper and were guided to place assorted colours over the top to secure it down with a few light taps. Jaxon, Greydon and Sebastian were all fascinated by the glue, watching how it spread along the paper and how it slowly dripped in a downward motion.
Construction
The children have been showing lots of enthusiasm in the construction area. Creating their own world with train tracks, wooden archers, blocks, cars and trains. They enhance their concentration as they connect the tracks together, line up blocks and balance archers exploring through play. Sharing brief conversation together, expressing their thoughts as they play. They persist as they come across tracks that they may not fit in perfectly the first time, learning to keep trying and work out another path.
During the winter months the children still love to head outside and explore the outdoors.
Thank you for supplying the children with extra clothing just in case they become slightly wet during their ventures.
Warm Wishes
