NEWS & ADMINISTRATION

Mrs Caroline Galea

Dear Parents,

Family Fun Day is almost upon us.  I would like to apologise for the fact that I will not be present on that day.  One of my twin sons is getting married this weekend and as a family, we will be travelling just outside of Wodonga, to a town called Gundowring, for this very special occasion.  I know that with your assistance,  my leadership team, along with the P&F and M.A.D. groups, are more than capable of ensuring that everything runs smoothly. I hope that everyone has an amazing time and lots of photos are taken.

Family Fun Day

Thank you to the many wonderful families who answered our call and have placed themselves on our Family Day roster.

Just a reminder... if you are able to spare an hour on Family Fun Day, could you please make contact with the school office to place your name on our roster.

Vision

Late last year, our staff worked on a new vision statement.  After many sessions we have finally agreed to the following:

Holy Name is an inclusive, Catholic community

that pairs innovative teaching with life-long learning.

We foster critical thinkers and independent learners to

become active contributors to a better future,

inspired by the life of Christ.

While a vision statement describes where we are going, our mission statement (also developed at the same time), tells us how we intend to achieve this.

Mission Statement

Holy Name seeks to create and promote a deep formation of the whole person

through:

  • Leading a faith inspired learning environment.
  • Building a community of learners inclusive of the parents, teachers, students, and the wider parish.
  • Shaping all to live in the image of Christ.
  • Establishing the learning dispositions that are central to our school.

Australia’s Best Teachers Campaign

News Corp has launched its ‘Australia’s Best Teachers’ campaign and Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) is a major partner.  Australia’s Best Teachers aims to recognise the wonderful work of those in the profession by celebrating our most inspirational and innovative educators. The campaign calls on Australians to nominate the great teachers who have, and have had, an incredible impact on our students and all of our lives.  A panel of expert judges will then select and announce the top 50 teachers on Saturday 6 May 2023.  We have some great teachers at Holy Name Primary School and I would like to encourage the entire school community to contribute nominations via the following link:

M.A.D. Event

Lastweek, the MAD group held their first social evening. This was a great opportunity for dads to get together and connect with one another. There is no obligation to attend all the sessions, but this is a wonderful opportunity to become part of the Holy Name community. We welcomed the dads that came along for the first time. I hope this becomes the first of many occasions.

Parent Class Representatives

Each year, we call for parent volunteers to act as Class Representatives who are an important part of our school in assisting us to build a strong community. This is not a difficult role and would suit either a mum or dad.  The Role of the Reps is as follows:

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUGGESTIONS

  • Acts as a contact point between the Parents & Friends and school
  • Feedback to P & F and School Staff on what parents are thinking and commenting on
  • Act as a source of information for new families to the school
  • Acting as an extra line of communication between the teacher and parents, for example by passing on messages about school events
  • Organise social events for parents to get to know each other
  • Setting up and running a Facebook page where class parents can communicate

There are 11 classes and we are looking for one rep per class.  In the past, some classes have had two reps and this has worked particularly well, so if you would like to partner up with another parent in your child's class, please do so.

If you are interested in taking on this role, please see/email Leanne in the office (office@hnpe.catholic.edu.au) as soon as possible. We will be in touch with all parents who volunteer.
