Principal

Mr Chris Grimmer

Busy Term 1

It is still extremely busy as we approach the second half of Term 1, with NAPLAN testing being conducted in the next two weeks, the primary STOMP performance in the coming weeks, Surf Camp in week 9, whole school Parent/Teacher Interviews on the 5th April, Crazy Hair Day and the Easter Activities to finish off Term 1.  Thank you to the staff for the huge effort that goes into making these programs a success and thank you to all families for the wonderful support you continue to provide our college.

2023 Merbein P-10 College Council Election

Nominations for school council closed on Friday 3rd March.

I would like to congratulate and thank the following people who have nominated for another term on the Merbein P-10 College council.

Ann Penny (Parent Category)

Sandy I’Anson (Parent Category)

Michelle Nokes (Parent Category)

Scott Gardiner (Parent Category)

Amy Nash (DET Category)

Our two student representatives for 2023 are Isabella Palamara and Tasharni Quinlivan.

We are currently looking at re-configuring our council membership to better represent our current college context. The proposed membership size will be 13, rather than the current number of 17 and will be made up of 6 parent reps, 4 staff reps, 1 Co-opted community member and 2 student reps. This proposed change will be presented at our next council meeting for approval.

I look forward to continuing to work with council to further our work on school improvement across the P-10 College.

Labour Day Public Holiday Reminder

Monday 13th March is the Labour Day Public Holiday.

The school will be closed on this day.

Naplan

The NAPLAN Testing Program will be held at the college starting Wednesday 15th March and concluding Monday 27th March.  Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete the tests at different times throughout these 9 days, which are based around language conventions, writing, reading comprehension and maths. The majority of tests will be completed online, with only the Year 3 writing test being completed on paper.

No one at the school knows the exact content of the tests and they are marked externally.  Despite this, teachers have been preparing students, by ensuring the skills likely to be tested are learned.

If any parents wish to withdraw their child from any of the tests, they should contact Mr Morgan who will provide a form for parents to sign.  If students are not officially withdrawn, then they will be required to sit the testing regime.

Teacher Proffessional Practice Day & ANZAC Day (Start of Term 2)

We will be holding a whole school Teacher Professional Practice Day on Monday April 24th, which will be followed by the ANZAC Day public holiday on the Tuesday 25th April. Students will not attend school on these two days.
