Learning Tasks

Learning Tasks

Learning Tasks appear on Compass and can be in the form of Assessment Tasks, Progress Tasks, Outcomes and SAC/SAT (VCE only). Unit, Strand, and Learning Outcomes (VCE VM only).

At any time during the year, families, students, and teachers are able to see Learning Tasks, the due date, the criteria for marking/Vic level/VCE rubrics, and the achieved result.

All students in a class must be enrolled in all set Learning Tasks or Modified Learning Tasks where applicable.

Each KLA will set 3 assessment tasks per semester. Where a subject has an associated exam, 2 assessment tasks may be set, in addition to the exam. The exam must appear on the End of Semester Summary Report.

The following subjects will only have 2 AT in semester 1 2024 (these subjects have had a time allocation change to one period per week)

  • 7 Music – full year
  • 7 Art – full year
  • 7 Food Technology - semester
  • 7 Design & Technology – semester

Results are to be uploaded within a three-week timeframe.

Learning Tasks can be split into the categories of either formative or summative tasks:

  • Progress Tasks (formative tasks)
    • May receive an S/N grade or Performance grade (%, NA, ABS, NS),
    • These tasks are not included on the End of Semester Summary Report F-12. There is no limit to how many Progress Tasks a teacher/KLA assigns but should be reasonable as to not overwhelm students or staff.
    • They should be formative assessments, which give feedback on the student's learning progress.
  • Assessment Tasks aresummative tasks that appear on the End of Semester Summary Report

Adjustments to Assessment Tasks

  • If a subject teacher feels that they are unable to meet the required number of assessment tasks per semester, the KLA leader will need to bring the request to decrease assessment tasks to T&L for review
  • They will need to provide evidence as to the number of timetabled classes for the subject, the number of classes undertaken, and the reason for this discrepancy
  • This request must be tabled to T&L 5 weeks before the end-of-semester reports cycle opens.
  • The decision made by T&L will be presented to the relevant teachers by the KLA leader
  • Agreed changes will be provided to all staff during the proofreading of reports by the T&L team

Modified Learning Tasks

  • PSD students should be provided with Modified Learning Tasks that reflect the needs and learning recommendations of the student where applicable.
