Intensive English Language Centre (IELC) - Assessment For Learning

Continuous Assessment

Continuous assessment provides students and parents with timely information regarding student skill acquisition, learning and growth.

  • Teachers set and assess Learning Tasks via the Compass portal
  • Student progress will be monitored and reviewed by lead IELC teachers and the International Student Coordinator as part of the meeting schedule for the current year
  • During the 20 week IELC course; Reading and Viewing, Writing, Speaking and Listening will be monitored via EAL aligned Learning Tasks as well as On Demand testing

Learning Tasks

At the Macleod College IELC, we have two different types of Learning Tasks that provide feedback to students and families:

Progress Tasks (formative)

Progress tasks are formative assessments that portray a student’s progress through the IELC curriculum

  • These will not appear on the mid-cycle (week 10) and end-of-cycle (week 20) reports
  • These tasks can be graded using either the S/N or % grading components
  • There should be at least 5 progress tasks uploaded to Compass per term by the two lead IELC teachers

Assessment Tasks (summative)

Assessment tasks are summative tasks that represent a student’s achievements within the Victorian Curriculum 7-10 EAL.

  • These will appear on the mid-cycle (week 10) and end-of-cycle (week 20) reports
  • These tasks will be graded using the % grading component
  • All work submitted will receive a pathway C level (CL-C4)
  • There should be at least 4 assessment tasks uploaded to Compass per term by the two lead IELC teachers

VCAA On Demand Testing
