2023 SWIMMING CARNIVAL

A very huge thank you to the staff, students and student teachers that assisted with the running of the St Joseph’s College Swimming Carnival.

The weather was fantastic for swimming but not that great for the staff and spectators with the temperature hovering around 37 degrees.

Congratulations to Xavier for snatching a very narrow win over Chisholm. At the conclusion of the individual events, Chisholm looked as if they had the goods, but the relay points would decide the result in Xavier's favour.

LMR SWIMMING RESULTS – SWAN HILL

A total of eight individual qualifiers and 12 relay swimmers made a spirited attempt to defend the school's shield that they won last year.

Successful students on the day were Jasmin Allen, Joaquin Leal-Kaiser, Max Bell and Montana Smythe who will compete at the State Championships in April after winning several events each.

St Joseph's College students came home with a total of 36 medals and were placed a very close third behind Girton Grammar School and St Joseph’s College Echuca in the point score.

HPV PROGRAM

A whopping 51 students signed up for the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) program this year, so the latest edition to our HPV fleet has arrived just in the nick of time.

Students suggested naming the new car RESILIENCE, and the College Executive agreed. The college thanks the Catholic Development Fund (CDF) for generously sponsoring our newest pod. The students will soon adorn the chassis in a specially designed wrap.

NATIONAL SCHOOLS CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION

From Tuesday 21 March to Thursday 24 March 2023, Grace Albanese will be among 116 Year 11 and 12 students from around Australia attending the 28th National Schools Constitutional Convention (NSCC), which will be held at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, Canberra. The program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education (DOE), coordinated by National Curriculum Services (NCS) and supported by the Australian Curriculum Studies Association (ACSA) and department of education from all states and territories.

The aim of the program is to provide senior students with an opportunity to become better informed about how Australia's Constitution provides a democratic framework and encourages them to take an active interest in the operation of government. The topic for the 2023 Convention is, ‘Constitutional Reform – Is section 128 still a necessary requirement to change such an important document as the Australian Constitution?’.

Emeritus Professor John Warhurst AO will facilitate the Convention where Grace, along with other delegates, will spend two days exploring the topic. During the two days, students will hear from experts, debate the main issues relating to the topic and vote in a mock referendum conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission. The program includes the Prime Minister’s Welcome Reception at Parliament House, a meeting with the Governor-General, The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) at Government House, and a dinner at the High Court of Australia. The full program is available on the Convention's website.

Decisions made at the Convention will be incorporated into a Communiqué that will be forwarded to the President of the Senate, Senator Sue Lines. The Communiqué will then be tabled in Parliament.

As a national delegate, Grace was selected from hundreds of students from government, independent and Catholic schools, most of whom took part in feeder conventions in their home state or territory.

FLEXISCHOOLS CASHLESS CANTEEN

At the end of 2022, the college released ‘Flexischools – Cashless Canteen’, designed to make ordering lunch for your child/ren easier.

The college encourages lunch to be pre-ordered, and this app will allow you to do that. Orders are paid for directly through the app and sent straight to our Canteen. (No money will be required at the Canteen.) Through the app, you can also track your order history and load money onto your child’s student card so they can purchase items directly from our Canteen. In addition, you can set up multiple children on one account and top each one's card up separately.

Flexischools Canteen class lists have been updated, and all users will be required to select the new class (year level) when they next use the platform.

Information regarding account setup is attached.

We will continue to accept EFTPOS and cash at our Canteen. Flexischools is just another option. Simplify your school life with Flexischools – Cashless Canteen today.
