VCE OUTDOOR AND ENVRIONMENTAL STUDIES TRIP – LAKE MUNGO

On Wednesday March 1, the VCE Unit 3/4 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class visited the Willandra Lakes World Heritage region and Lake Mungo National Park.

The purposes of this excursion were to visit an environment and better understand how it developed before human occupation, discover the relationship that First Nations peoples have had with the area, and learn about the more recent impacts on the area made by the arrival of Europeans.

Students were fortunate enough to have Mutthi Mutthi park ranger Sharon Charles lead them for two hours to describe how megafauna such as giant wombats and kangaroos once lived in the region, speak about the changes to the Lachlan River over 60,000 years, and how the recovery of Mungo Man and Mungo Lady has developed everyone’s  understanding of the location.

Students were able to meet a number of key knowledge points from their study design whilst also being able to enjoy one of our more local and significant outdoor environments.
