Inclusion and Diversity

Inclusion at TEM in 2020

At the end of what undoubtedly would have been a bumper 2020 season, we can reflect that while we haven't actually played any hockey, we have upped our efforts to stay connected across the club and for this everyone should be proud!

Thank you to everyone who has and is still doing their bit in helping others to stay connected. Your enthusiasm is amazing, your efforts do get noticed, and the club is a better place thanks to your energy!

Some things that we have enjoyed this year and bring a smile to people's faces are:

  • The long awaited return of the TEMpo Newsletter
  • Zoom exercise and pilates sessions
  • Various mens and womens facebook-based challenges (we've had pets, birthdays, pushups, running 5K, sweaty selfies, player profiles and much more!)
  • Webinars (Josh Pollard MPL Coach, and Lily Bourke, Headspace Hawthorn)
  • Amazing photographic memories of previous seasons and finals series.

Action Plan 2021 and Grants

Last issue we explained some of the key actions set out for 2021 to help us as we strengthen our cohesion and connectedness across the club.  As we work through these, we'll keep you updated with progress and any feedback will of course be appreciated:

  • Audit Club Policies, Procedures and Practices
  • Inclusive Practice Education
  • Celebrate and Promote Inclusive Practice and Diversity

VicHealth has just announced its new grant program - Reimagining Health Grants. Organisations who can support young people (aged 0-25 years) or Victorians experiencing disadvantage, by creating meaningful social connection, providing opportunities for physical activity or by addressing food security issues are invited to come up with ideas that reimagine health and wellbeing in 2020 and 2021.

One of our ideas for funding is that at the beginning of every year as part of our junior recruitment activities we run hockey clinics in local primary schools. Next year we'd love to build on that with an end of term all day event for participating schools, and keep any costs for the schools and kids to a minimum, thereby removing any potential barriers for participation.

We'll keep you posted with any news about success or otherwise with the grant applications!

If you have contacts with a school in our zone, and you think they might be interested in school based clinics with our awesome coaches, just get in touch with Leesa and she'll be more than happy to follow up. Any ideas at all about new schools are always welcome, and as we move into term 4, now is the time to initiate contact.

Wellbeing support

Are you or anyone you know struggling to cope during the pandemic?  A reminder that Beyond Blue and Headspace are two organisations that are here to support your wellbeing.  Also please feel encouraged to reach out to anyone in the mens and womens sections - your friends, team mates and committee members are all here to listen and support.
