Language Program

Learning languages broadens students’ horizons about the personal, social, cultural and employment opportunities that are available in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world. The interdependence of countries and communities requires people to negotiate experiences and meanings across languages and cultures. The Languages curriculum on the Secondary Campus, beginning in Year 7, aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to ensure that students:

  • communicate in the language they are learning
  • understand the relationship between language, culture and learning
  • develop intercultural capabilities
  • understand themselves as communicators

Students undertake 1 Term of study in each of the following languages: French, Spanish, Indonesian and Turkish as part of their core learning program. (Beginning 2021)

In Year 8 students elect ONE language to continue to study as part of their core learning program. This is studied for the full year. (Beginning 2022)

Students in Years 9 and 10 will have the option to continue their language study as part of the elective program. This is further enhanced by the opportunity to study language at VCE level through the Victorian School of Languages. (2023 and beyond)
