At the end of Term 3, we said farewell to our long serving Guidance Counsellor, Gerry Collins. Gerry and I have had many conversations over the years regarding student support and student protection. His wisdom and sense of collegiality will be missed. I wouldn’t dare to guess the number of individual students he has directly supported over his near 30 year service to the College.

While the holiday is only just about to begin, I ask parents/carers to keep the start of Term 4 in mind and ensure that students are following all uniform and personal grooming expectations upon their return. Unfortunately, several students have needed to go home at the start of previous terms to adjust hair that didn’t meet College expectations. In short, St Mary’s expects hair to be conventional/conservative in colour (natural colour) and style (no undercuts, man buns, shaved sections, etc). The vast majority of students have no problem with this.

One thing that has crept in from the girls this year is scrunchies of various colours and patterns. They should be only plain white, black, green or maroon. It is worth getting things right for the benefit of individuals in terms of belonging and self - discipline, and for the benefit of all who experience greater respect within the College and the wider community. I’m hopeful to not start a scrunchy collection next term.

Please enjoy quality family time over the holiday.
