The Australian History Challenge is a national essay competition.  Last year we had two students make it to the State finals.  This year we did one better and we have a student who made it to the National finals.

The theme for 2020 was Contested Histories.  This theme offered students the opportunity to explore various topics in history.  Students could consider events, periods, decisions, individuals, or groups in various fields - for example, fashion, medicine, or social movements in different eras.  Students nominate for this competition, working on their entry in their own time over and above their regular class assignments.

Keeva O’Kane in Year 10 chose the potato famine, an important era of Irish history, and her hypothesis was - The Irish Potato Famine.  Genocide or Political Mismanagement?  I am very proud to announce that Keeva received a bronze award for her efforts.  Keeva's essay is attached below.

Also we have a Year 8 student, Heidi Day, who achieved an outstanding result in the Australian Geography Competition, placing her in the top one per cent of students Australia-wide.
