Sports Report

Earlier this term, our Senior Basketball teams and Senior Girls Hockey played in the West Gippsland Finals. Although the Senior Boys Basketball team and the Senior Girls Hockey were not successful on the day, our Senior Girls Basketball team managed to win all their games. They have qualified for the next round, Gippsland Finals, which will be played on this coming Monday, the 19th of August.

On Tuesday the 6th of August, we had both Year 8 boys' teams play their Gippsland Soccer Final in Drouin and the Intermediate boys play in their Gippsland Netball Finals in Traralgon. Although the Year 8 boys did not lose a game, they, unfortunately, did not win the day. They won one game and drew another, however, another team won on percentage, leaving the boys with 2nd place. The Intermediate boys won 2 games against Lakes Entrance Secondary and rivals, Lavalla Secondary College. However, a well-drilled Wonthaggi Secondary proved too strong for our boys.

On the 9th of August, our Year 8 Girls traveled to Traralgon to play in the Gippsland Netball Finals. Catholic College Sale, Nagle Secondary College, and Wonthaggi Secondary all proved too strong for our girls as we went down every game. Although the girls lost, to their credit they kept their heads held high for the entire day and had lots of fun.

On the 31st of July, our Herald Sun Shield Boys AFL team traveled to Cragieburn to play against the prestigious Ballarat Clarendon College. Although with a huge effort, our undermanned side went down 35 – 66. The boys managed to hold on until three-quarter time, when Ballarat ran away with it in the last quarter. Year 9 student and youngest player in the team, Bailey Humphrey, starred for the game.

On Monday morning, the Intermediate Girls AFL Team played in the State Quarter Final against Ringwood Secondary College at the Koonung Recreation Reserve. After terrible weekend weather, the ground was a mud pit, however, luckily for the girls they got to play on the ground with a little bit of grass. With a great team effort, the girls went down by 7 points in the last quarter after being ahead for the entire game. The girls gave their all for the entire game; unfortunately, Ringwood proved too strong when it counted. Ringwood went on to win the Semi-Final by 40 points, showing how talented our girls really are.

Earlier this term, Year 8 Student, Emily Euman, competed in the prestigious Australian Teachers of Dancing Australasian Scholarship competition in Brisbane where her hard work and talent won her gold. Congratulations on such an outstanding achievement Emily.

Recently announced, 2018 Year 12 student Brock Smith, and current Year 12 students, Sam Flanders and Riley Baldi, have been invited to the National AFL Combine. Congratulations to them and also Year 12 students Harry Pepper and Leo Connolly who have been invited to the State AFL Combine.
