Middle School Report

Welcome to our first newsletter for Semester 2. This semester started in the last 2 weeks of Term 2 with the Headstart program. This has proven to be a success while giving us an even spread of teaching and learning weeks over the school year.

Course selection for 2020 started last week with Course information sessions for year 10 to 11 held prior to students submitting their selections. There will be ongoing information given to students and parents regarding the 2020 program in coming weeks.

With the cold weather settling in, I implore parents and students to adhere to the Lowanna College uniform expectations. If you are having difficulties complying with the uniform policy, please contact the school. During wet and cold days, we have been making available heated classrooms for recess and lunch breaks.

Across the entire College, we have a strong focus on attendance and ensuring as few absences as possible, as evidence shows that poor attendance can affect student outcomes. As a way of recognising 100% attendance all students who have achieved 100% attendance over each 5 week block go into a spinning wheel raffle for a prize to acknowledge this great achievement.

GPA’s will be released shortly, and we ask parents to have a discussion with their child about these results and how they reflect on their learning. Students should take this opportunity to discuss their results with the relevant teacher.

GPA INCENTIVE:

At the end of Semester one, the Middle School looked at all our data regarding which home group had the highest GPA for the semester. The 10C home group led by Allan Chandler (pictured below) achieved this, and as a reward they received a free pizza lunch day.

This challenge is on again this term and in the coming weeks we will be putting a ladder up to demonstrate where each Middle School home groups GPA’S are.
