Principal's Report

Year 7 Camp

I had the pleasure of attending the Year 7 camp on Friday the 1st of March. It was a great day with all of the students attending telling me of their highlights over the 3 days. I was able to get involved in the high ropes and flying fox groups and witness many students receiving multiple school value awards cards. The feedback from the camp staff and Lalor Secondary College staff was extremely positive and the school could not be prouder of the students who attended this camp. A big thank you to all of the staff who attended the camp and to Josh Simpson for the facilitating the 3 day experience

School Council Elections

The school received 5 parent nominations for school council which means an election was required to decide the 4 vacant positions. I would like to welcome the parents who have been successfully elected onto school council for 2019 and look forward to working closely with them over the next two years. The parent representatives are : Silv Tenace, Julie Pronesti, Lidia Assaf and Seema Bangia.

I would like to say thank you to the outgoing school council members, who have served for a variety of terms. The work that has been achieved, especially over the past 3 years has left the school in a terrific position and one in which the whole school community can be proud of. A huge thank you to Gavin Bowman the outgoing School Council President. Gavin contributed a significant amount of time last year during our whole school review and helped inform the process to set our strategic direction over the next 4 years. Gavin has been a school council member at his children’s primary school previously and the school community thanks him for his contributions to both schools over his time on council.

The three vacant DET positions for school council are Julie Ryan, Tim Cottrell and Melanie Foster. This group brings a range of experiences from different backgrounds that will be valuable for our school council over the next two years. I thank them for their ongoing commitment to the college and the council, and again look forward to working with them over the next two years.

We have also run our student school council elections for 2019. This year we had 4 students nominate for the one positon. Those students were : Milan Grmusa, Deveraux Kalauni, Sara Mickoska and Thu Pham. The student who has been elected to school council is Deveraux Kalauni and we look forward to working with Deveraux over the next two years. I would like to thank all of the students who nominated for the positon, but especially Milan Grmusa who was a committed member of school council in 2018 and made a number of valuable contributions during that time.

Year 7 Physical Education Uniform Trial

All Year 7 students will be involved in a trial commencing next term that will allow them to wear their PE uniform to school on the day they have sport or physical education. We will be looking at whether this increases their time involved in physical activity during these classes. All students will still be required to bring their full school uniform so they can get changed at the end of the class. This will be communicate to the students in more detail in the coming weeks.

Student Free Days

We have two student’s free days coming up next week. Monday the 11th of March is Labour Day and students are not required to attend school on this day. Friday the 15th of March is the school’s first Curriculum Day for 2019 and students will not be required to attend school on this day either. All staff will continue to undertake the Berry Street training on this day which is part of our schools strategic direction over the next 4 years.
